Where to Dine and Things to See near Overland for Mini Vaca

My family lives in Flower Mound TX and my husbands family near DES Moines IA. We are meeting in the middle in Leawood/Overland Park near the Sprint Headquarters and staying a couple of nights in a hotel. We are planning on going to a pumpkin patch and shopping. Nana is going to watch the kids Sat night so we can go out. Is there a nice/upscale place to dine or a nice bar near there we can go to? Any other things we must do with the kids while we are there? The kids are 1, 3, and 7. Where should we shop? Thanks Moms!

What can I do next?

If you want good pizza (my kids fav restaurant), Spin, there are several of them. Kelidascope is great fun for the kids. There are several good pumpkin patches... It's a chain, but Sullivans is a good steakhouse near Bristol (I like Bristol too...). I like J Alexander's, but it is much louder. If you want very fancy, Bluestem is good and local and uses good local ingreedients.

Hello...as far as a nice place for you and your husband, try Westchase Grill. It's close to the Sprint Headquarters. My husband and I tried it for a date night a couple of week ago. Food was great and they have different bands. Ours happened to be Jazz and it wasn't too loud. Look it up!
As far as shopping, across the Sprint Headquarters there is outdoor shopping.
Enjoy!

There are several great restaurants near Town Center, which is right there.

The Bristol is right on the corner of 119th and Nall, very nice upscale restaurant known for it's food and service. The Herford House is an iconic Kansas City Steak House, on the back side of Town Center.
Just north of 119th off of Nall is Tres Vino. I have not been there yet, but have heard rave reviews about it.
Yai Yais is another one of my favorites on the corner of 119th and Roe (the next block over from Nall). Along in there is also West Chase Grill which is really good.
On the SouthEast Corner of 119th and Roe is a newer area with several restaurants that I've heard great things about but haven't been to. . . Sullivan's a Steak Place and North an Italian Place.

There are plenty of places right there to shop. Town Center is on 119th street between Nall and Roe. They have a Macy's, Gap, Baby Gap and not sure what else since I'm past that age. ;) Across the street is Hawthorne Plaza and then on the other side (Sullivan side) there are some places to shop as well.

Many people will probably recommend the Louisburg Cider Mill and Pumpkin Patch down in Louisburg, Kansas about 30-45 minutes south. Or the Johnson Pumpkin Patch about 175th and Holmes on the Missouri side, (not that far) but my favorite is Schaake's just outside of Lawrence, Kansas which is about 30-45 minutes West.

The children would certainly enjoy the Deanna Rose farmstead at 135th and Antioch - I think that's the right cross street. There are a lot of restaurants. You're very close to the Cheesecake Factory. The Bristol Bar and Grill is at 119th and Metcalf. There are many others. You are virtually surrounded by shopping. The closest mall is Oak Park Mall at 95th and Quivera. Town Center is at 119th and Nall. Enjoy your visit.

Okay, there is a TON of stuff that is opening up right around there right now! There is a fabulous place, one of my faves, called La Bodega on 119th and Roe (like 2 blocks from where you're staying) it is Spanish tapas and they have the best sangria ever! My husband even loves this place, so it's not froo-froo or anything. There is also Avenues Bistro right there, another tapas place but a little more fancy than funky and they have a great wine list. You must also try Andre's for brunch or lunch. It is also on 119th between Roe and Nall and it is going to blow your mind. It is a Swiss confectionary place with homemade quiche and chocolates. I don't think it's open Sunday though, so make sure you go Saturday.

In the same area as La Bodega there is new upscale shopping and a brand new Trader Joe's market. If you don't have TJ's you need to check it out! It is low cost, super yummy, healthy, organic type foods and it rocks!!

Town Center is a good place to shop for adults, but the Oak Park Mall is just 10 minutes away and is an indoor mall and it's much more fun for the kids. There is a carousel, a free play area perfect for the 1 and 3 y/o, a Build a Bear Workshop, American Girl Doll Store, Disney Store, tons of places to eat. Both malls have a Barnes and Noble too and they have a train table and story time on the weekends.

There are a lot of pumpkin patches that are near. Louisburg is close by and I love it, but honestly, the patch isn't that great. There are others that are more of an "experience" but I go back to there every year for the cider donuts. They are a childhood favorite of mine and seriously to die for.

I also suggest Deanna Rose Farmstead. It's $2/person on the weekends but it's still worth it. You can literally spend a day there, or at least most of a day! Crown Center is downtown and there is lots to see and do there. They usually have a free exhibit that's interative and there is a restaurant called Fritz's that brings the food by train. Union Station may also have an exhibit (although it costs) right now as well. Keliodoscope (at Crown Center) is always fabulous too, but you have to find out when their "family" time is so you can go in with the young ones.

There is so much to do! Definitely try one of our local restaurants b/c we have a nice little food niche here! Feel free to message me if you have any further questions...I love to eat out and we try and keep our kids active! ;) Have fun!!

J. Gilberts is a great place for a nice night out. And Bristol if you love seafood or Bravo if you like Italian. La Bodega is a really fun place for tapas and sangria.

Definitely take the kids to Deanna Rose Farmstead - free during the week and only $2 for 2 and over on the weekend. Tons to do there!

Renaissance festival is going on not too far from Overland Park. Also, go to downtown Overland Park farmer's market on Wed or Sat morning.

Have fun!

I second the bristol, one of my favorites! Ask for the chocolate cake that isn't shown on the dessert tray, to die for, and so is their lobster bisque. Deanna rose farmstead is so fun and cute for the kids.
