i did gymboree from the time my daughter was 7m old until just this month (she turned 3 in feb). it WAS worth it -- they used to do a thing where it was half price after the first year, but the cancelled that. mommy and me (www.theoriginalmommyandme.com) is also fabulous. we did lake grove and rocky point, and i met a lot of nice moms from there. my gym just opened in stony brook, and is also great, but the employees (including the owner) come on a bit too strong, in my opinion. they're also pricy though. good luck!

Check out www.MOMSCLUB.org. I used to be in the Western Brookhaven chapter, but I went back to work, so I quit. It was a great expierience for me and kids.
Good Luck!

I go to gymboree and my little one loves it... but she is nine months old. I think the older they get the less they need the actual class and the more they just want to play. But the classes are great. They also have open gyms. About once a day they offer a 45 min. period where you can bring your child just to play. I am going back to work next year, and am still going to get the open gym pass, just to have a place for her to go and play. The ages vary, but you will definately find children your child's age. I highly recommend gymboree.

Hi. Where on Long Island are you? If you live in the town of Smithtown, Hoyt Farms on New Highway is wonderful. You have to be a Smithtown resident to park in their parking lot and the surrounding community has no parking rules. There is a playground a large playing field, a small water section of the play ground and animals and walking trails. Teh Broadway Mall on 106/107 in Hicksville (the Ikea Mall) has a small indoor play section outside of the movie theatre for rainy days. It does tend to get crowded, though.

Newsday usually has a kid's events section on Friday's Part II. That will tell you of different fairs, etc. They also have a summer recreation guide that should be coming out within the next couple of months. Libraries usually have age appropriate reading groups and programs for the summers... call now to get information, because as they are generally free programs, registration is limited and fills up fast!

Hope this helps!

Hi, My son did Gymboree when he was younger (6 mths-36 mths)he is now 6 but still good friends with someone from the group. We did Hicksville and Deer Park both were real good! Also you should try your Bookstore's Reading Hour. Once a week on certain days they have it(Barnes & Noble)I met a couple of people there with kids the same age and made playdates.
