Hi! I am looking for some suggestions on vacation spots in Florida for my family in November. We have two girls that will be 4 1/2 and 2 at the time we will go. We have no desire to go to Disney, so we are looking for suggestions to other areas in Florida that are "family friendly" that both the kids an us can enjoy. Our plan is to rent a home for a week with a pool and we prefer to go a little further south so the weather will still be warm or maybe even hot. Maybe there are water parks out there or beaches with fun stuff to do? We'd really like an area with outdoor dining too. Do you have any areas you would recommend or maybe areas that you suggest we stay away from? The last time we made a visit to Florida, we went to Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Key West….had a blast, but also didn't have kids! Any areas you can offer up for us to look in to?

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Hi M. ~
I know you've been to Key West, but that is deffinitely the first place I thought of. Yes, there's alot of partying, but mostly at night...there's alot of water stuff to do during the day..dolphin watches, snorkeling, the beach...

Also, what about Clearwater Beach? It's on the Gulf Coast...that side is so much nicer than the ocean side! The sand is soft, white and the water blue...and wonderful sunsets.

We've stayed in Ormund Beach, too, which is about 5 minutes north of Daytona...beach was OK, not as much for kids...but still have alot of water activities...and about 45 minutes from Kennedy Space Center (although your girls are probably a little young for that yet).

have fun!

Hi, M.

My family loves: Myrtle Beach, St. Petersburg and Ft. Lauderdale. Orlando is also wonderful, you don't have to visit Disneyworld.

We really enjoyed a week in St. Augustine last February. It's relatively laid back, a good pace for smaller kids. Great little walking/trolley tours, especially the nation's first school house, and the Fort.

I have attached a link to a Holiday Inn in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. It is a 20 minute drive from Tampa Airport. We stayed there for 10 days at Christmas time and can't say enough good things about the trip. There are two pools here and two restaurants. In five minutes, you can walk to Indian Rocks beach (right on the gulf) and various restaurants, too. You are a short drive from many other beautiful beaches, including Clearwater Beach. There is so much to do in this area, I can't even begin to mention it all! We booked through Orbitz, and it was the way to go...way cheaper than booking separately. We rented a pontoon boat (five minutes down the road from the hotel) and took a Christmas Eve cruise down the intercoastal waterway...it was very surreal considering what Christmas Eve is usually like in Michigan. In shorts, eating shrimp, drink in hand on Christmas Eve....aaaahhhh! Hope this helps.
