When I found out that I was pregnant, Jan. of 06, I stopped all of my herbals. I researched them and found conflicting feedback, so I took the safe route and stopped them all.

Herbals are very scarcely regulated by the FDA, so the production of them is varied, especially from country to country.

My advice, stick to the prenatals with the omega-3 fish oil supplement.

A little about me, I have been a registered nurse for almost 20 years, adult medicine, specifically critical care. I am a nurse educator, so I have a knack for exploring reputable research sources.

I worked in the health food/supplement industry for over 5 years. I never heard from any of my training seminars that its was harmful to use either when pregnant. I used Flax Seed Oil while I was pregnant with both my boys and even put a little into their cereal when they started eating cereal at 5 months too. I was always told it was extremely beneficial. There is a big difference between fish oil and flax oil. Some fish oils still contain traces of mercury. Flax oil doesn't. I always used flax over fish oil because it had a better ratio of EFAs 3-6-9. Fish has more Omega 6 which is mostly over used in the american diet anyway. As far as Whey goes... Its a natural part of milk. So unless you are allergic to it then there shouldn't be any reason not to use it during pregnancy. Its great to increase your protein intake you need when pregnant too.
Check all your references well. Talk to others beside the internet and Doctors. Most doctors dont have as much nutrition training as they should. Most of the time there is nothing on "if its ok" when pregnant because its never been tested but that doesnt mean that its harmful!
I hope this helps you.

Hi J....I had no idea about your question until I googled it on the internet. I found a few websites that said you shouldn't use flax seed oil while pregnant. They said switch to fish oil. There is concern that flax seed oil effects your estrogen levels. As for whey powder, I didn't find anything that spoke negatively about taking it during pregnacy. A comment someone made was that it was good, but that regular whole foods were always better. Anyway, you can google it too. This is just what I've read in the last few minutes. Definitely not a professional opinion. :)

I would check with your doctor, I take flax seeds in many different forms and is awesome but I am not pregnant. I am not sure if whey is safe, but I looked and doctors say you should stay away from flax seed oil while pregnant. You can allways take it after you are pregnant.
