B..
Vinegar bath. I part vinegar to 10 parts water. I put the fruit in for 20-30 minutes and then rinse. The water is disgusting after the fruit is removed, which makes me feel better!
People that said that they wouldn't eat a grape at the store because they were worried about grape being "dirty or having pesticides" on them...how do you wash your grapes at home? I may be crazy but I just do a quick rinse...which I think if there are bad germs or pesticides on them I should be dead by now (considering my family eats about a bag a week).
What is your fruit/veggie washing protocol?

i do a two second rinse and eat=) although sometimes we eat on the way home=) my kid eats without washing her hands too=)
Trader Joe's sells an environmental veggie wash. I never feed my family anything without soaking and rinsing first (unless it's like an orange, which will be peeled). But grapes without a doubt. I am willing to bet it's on the dirty dozen list (like lettuce)--the fruits and vegetables that have the most pesticides. Google it since we're not allowed to put outside URLs.
Thanks Bug! That's an awesome idea! Going to try that the next store run we make. :)
We use a vinegar and water soak/wash as well....most of the time. I don't honestly know how effective it is, but it makes us feel better. :)
I usually just rinse in plain water. A second rinse if there's obvious dirt, leaves etc. Rinse and scrub mushrooms. And after pressure from my mom, now I wash the outside of watermelons, etc.(because the knife is going to drag germs from the outside to the inside) I hope that's enough to get the pesticides and germs off.
My husband, on the other hand, likes to start eating fruit on the way home from the store(blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, grapes), despite my warnings that it could have dirt, germs, bird poop, etc. on it. He's never gotten sick from it.
I usually just rinse them but I've seen on here and on Pinterest that people fill the sink with vinegar water to cleanse them. Makes sense to me and I'm going to start doing that.
Rinse with water, dry and EAT!!!
If I remember, I rinse them.
I never rinse fruit. yep, bad mommy here I guess.
BUT I recently read about the vinegar wash and that if you use that on berries and fruit it will last longer in the fridge, so maybe I'll remember to do that... doubt it though.
I use fruit/veggie wash for all my fruits and veggies.
I pick them off the stem/vine (so that every grape is completely stemless), take a handful and wash them gently under running water. I roll them around in my hands while the water runs over them. No, I do not use any soap, but just water is shown to be sufficient to rinse of plenty of germs. Whether or not it gets the pesticides, I don't know, but I'm sure it rinses off some germs that have been picked up from machinery or handling or just the air during transport or sitting in the store. And I feel better about that.
After I rinse the handful (probably 15 seconds) I drop them into a colander lined with a paper towel, and pick off another handful to wash. I only wash what will be consumed at one time, as like with many fruits/veggies, once they are washed they don't last as long.
hmmm, I'm disappointed.
I thought your topic was going to be about wine. :)
Kudos to Bug, tho'.....
I throw my fruit in a sieve and let the water run on it for a few minutes. Then I set the sieve (and fruit) aside to drain.
Other times, I will just wash the fruit individually before eating.
Sometimes overthinking about all this stuff can be just as harmful as eating it.
We have indeed poisoned our food supply in the name of mass production and consumption :-(
I wash grapes throughly, because it's not the pesticides to worry about, it's Pin worms you need to consider. Grapes are hand picked, and the people who hand pick usually goes to the bathroom outside and don't usually wash their hands. That's why I wash all fruits and vegetables...Gross!!!
