I have an appointment tomorrow for a mammogram and sonogram for some problems I have been having. The problem is that I have strep throat. I started antibiotics yesterday afternoon. I don't want to get anyone else sick but I need to have the tests done. Would you keep the appointment or reschedule ? I am still running fever this morning ...

What can I do next?

Go. If you are worried you can ask for a mask. But you shouldn't be contagious anymore. After 24hrs on antibiotics you are no longer contagious. At least that's what my kiddo's doc has told us.

If you are still running a fever you should probably call FIRST thing in the morning and let them know what is going on and let them decide, I would say they will probably reschedule unless you NEED it RIGHT NOW!

As a mammographer, I appreciate the fact that you care about our health! I think you will have been on antibiotics for long enough by the time you head to your appoinment. If you're just not feeling well enough though, just call your clinic. I'm sure they will try and work with you.

once you have been on the antibiotics for 24 hours you should no longer be contagious, but practice good hand washing and all that while at the clinic.

You should feel better by tomorrow and can wear a mask too. They will be happy you care enough about them, and all you might say is you have a cough and dont want to spread your germs. Also, they wipe down the machines after each person so you dont need to worry about the germs from someone before you either. I actually take sanitizer wipes with me and wipe off the pen after I sign in and the counter where my hands touched. I also try to use my own pen but sometimes its a special electronic one hooked to the sign in pad and you have to use it. Sometimes I feel like Im getting a bit too freeked by germs,, then I get sick and decide maybe Im right and if others worried about it as much as I do, I wouldnt be sick. Hope you feel better soon.

I would call the clinic and ask the nurse her opinion they would know what the regulations and rules are for that.

Hope you feel better soon!

Call the clinic and ask them. Whatever the issues for which you are having a mammogram and sonogram will not become life threatening by waiting another day or two until you are not running fever. I am a 15 year breast cancer survivor so absolutely totally understand your nervousness. They will appreciate your concern for not only them but other women who might also be there who are undergoing chemo and whose immune systems are extremely susceptible to ANYTHING! If everyone stayed home when they are contagious there would be much less illness around. A compromised immune system can make even a trip to the grocery store dangerous so thank you for your concern for others..

You'll probably feel a lot better tomorrow. Dont breathe on anyone and dont tell them you have strep so you dont freak them out. Actually, the last few times I was at the doc there was sign that said "ask for a mask if you have a cough".. I'd ask for one and get the procedure done, otherwisy you know you will be waiting another month for the reschedule. IF you feel TOO crappy to go, then call them and tell them you are being treated for strep and hopefully they wont charge you your copay.

I would check with the clinic to be sure but I agree with others that you should be on antibiotics long enough to not be contagious. I'm not sure if along iwth it if you have any infected glands that could make an inaccurate reading. doubt it but you never know!

You will be on antibiotic for approx. 48 hours by the time of your appointment... correct? If so you are probably not contagious. I would think you are going to be feeling much better by tonight. Play it by ear but hopefully you will be much better by your appointment. Take care:)

yes, go. You wont be contagious anymore. Wash your hands, cough into your elbow and maybe even wear a mask.

Keep the apt. Once youve been on anbiotics for 48 hrs, your not contagious anymore. Those apts are so hard to get. I wouldnt change.
