Seeking a GOOD Elementary School!

Hello, Does anyone have any insight on any of the Elementary Schools in the Plano area? My son will be starting K for the 2009-2010 school year - yes I know it's a little early but it's my baby and of you course you know what it's like to want the best:) According to the PISD website, he should go to Rasor. Any input on that school. It's a little out of the way for us. Thanks! J.

Skipping a Grade

My son is in second grade, and he is advanced in math and reading at a 5th grade level. We are having conversations with his teacher and principal about moving him to third grade. I'm fairly opposed to this because I think it can be tough socially. Do you have any experiences or advice?

4Th Grade, 9Yo. Is That Too Young for the Hunger Games?

My little bookee came to me and asked if the hunger games trilogy is ok for her to read. I didn't think twice and said no. I explained that it may just be too violent for her age. And I told her that there may be other situations in the story that are a bit too mature for her. Skimming briefly on the story where one of the victors was forced to prostitute himself (in words she can grasp) or how children were basically in a lottery to fight for their death. She told me in 3rd grade one of her classmates read the books. Not sure how true...

Kindergarten or Not???

Hi there... I am looking for an enriching program for my son who may not be ready for Kindergarten next year. We live in the Mill Creek area but would be willing to drive for the right program. He is in a great pre k program here but may need a bit more before Kindergarten. He was born at 28 weeks and is doing amazingly well but we are having problems w/ recognition of numbers/letters...writing as well. Sooo...if you have any suggestions for a great school or program please pass it on!

Daughter Skipping 3Rd Grade

We moved from a suburban area of PA to a very rural area of MT last year. My daughter is just finishing 2nd grade and her teacher is recommending that she skip 3rd and go right to 4th next year. She already did 3rd grade math this year because she was ahead of the kids here. Her reading is also more advanced than the kids here. She has a Nov birthday so she really is closer to age with the other 3rd grader this year. I think she will do fine, but I'm just wondering what other parents have experienced with kids skipping a grade. Any...
