Toddler's Prolonged Constipation

My daughter has been suffering from constipation for about 10 months. Her pediatrician has recommended giving her Miralax, which we have been doing. However, every time we take her off the Miralax for a few days, her constipation comes back. I understand that constipation does not have to do with the frequency of her BM's and more to do with the hard stools she passes.
