Hello Ladies ..
Im new at this mother thing and it's been almost 8 years since this has happened to my niece. My baby boy is 10 weeks old and Just recently, he's been putting his fingers in his mouth and sucking on them. I assume that his belly isn't full and that he wants more milk. I try to give him more and he doesn't want it .. Im wondering if he's teething already. I have some teething rings for him that i put in the freezer, and he doesn't really like to suck on them but he will take them some days.. Has this happened to anyone? Should i get some Baby Ora-jel to see if that'll work? I dont want to take any risks.

What can I do next?

Hi S.! This might just be your baby's "security blanket" some babies take a favorite bear places, some suck their thumbs and some suck on their middle two or three fingers to comfort them. Does he seem to be in pain? Does he cry a lot while he is doing it? If not than this could be a possible reason.

This is normal for infants, even older infants. Infants have an "oral fixation". It's actually the first step in learning how to explore. They first taste everything. This is one reason why you'll find infant and toddler toys needing to be larger than a golf ball in all directions, and you'll see toys that say, "not suitable for children 3 years and under" because up to age 3 years kids will generally put things in their mouth to investigate and explore.

Keep your child to his regular feeding schedule. And no, it's not teething. You won't see that until 4 months at the earliest, usually at 6 months teeth will start to pop out.

Dont worry about your little boy sucking his fingers. This is a NORMAL way for an infant to learn to comfort themselves and you should be very happy that he has learned this valuable lesson. He is most likely not hungry unless this sucking is accompanied with crying, agitation or VERY agressive sucking. I have 3 children 2 of which are thumb suckers and one a finger sucker. How wonderful! Now you never have to worry about losing the pacifier. His is built right in.
Good Luck.
Keep working hard and loving your little one!

Babies tend to teeth for several month before the first tooth comes in, which is usually around 7 months old. It is possible that your son is teething. He could also have just figured out that sucking on his fingers is comforting. Try giving him a pacifier or some other thing to comfort him.
