i suggest doing a search on this web site for "nuva ring" as a lot of people have asked about it and commented on it - you might find some great advice. I personally recommend it - had great success with it, and preferred it over the pill for many reasons, one being "not having to take a pill every day"!

okay, i don't believe that ANY hormonal bc is "safe". my husband is a pharmacist(oncology is his specialty), and he is absolutely opposed to my being on ANY type of hormones out of concern for my health(cancer, strokes, blood clots, etc.). so, for me, that rules out the pill, the shot, the ring, etc. additionally, i know 3 ppl that did the shot - ALL THREE gained LARGE amounts of weight(like well over 60 pounds), none of them have EVER been able to get the weight off(and for one of them, she got the shot like 16 years ago). also, none were ever able to have children after the shot. i would do a LOT of research before even beginning to go down that path.

now, on to the IUD. that violates another rule i have - no implanting a foreign body in my body that isn't necessary to sustain my life(such as a pacemaker or something like that). the main reason i won't do that is infection risk. i had an IV port(PICC line) several years ago that infected and also killed me(literally, i was in ICU with 48 hrs to live according to the drs). i have a few friends that did the mirena. one ended up with a horrible staph infection in her uterus that took over a year to diagnose. she has not been able to carry a baby(2 miscarriages) and has had a great deal of difficulty getting pregnant since having her mirena removed. the other two friends have also had miscarriage issues, and both had trouble with the IUD getting "lost" and had to have ultrasounds to locate it for removal.

for my husband and i, we use natural methods. condoms, paying attention to my cycle, etc. my husband is actually getting a vasectomy on friday b/c we know we are done having kids. after that was scheduled, due to some female issues i'm having, i am also having an endometrial ablation and a tubal - hormones would treat my problem, but i'm not comfortable being on them for years.

good luck with your decision!

get your tubes tied.... saves money in the long run, a bit uncomfortable for a few days...

If you were are uncertain about the nuva ring, which I am as well I would recommend get a IUD. They put it in and it stays for 5-10 years and you do not have to take it out every month like the nuva ring. I am on the pill and love the pill I am on, but if you're forgetful then it would be a problem. I would also say ask your gyno what they think would be best for you.

I have been using the Nuva Ring for a little over a year. It is easy, you don't have to take it every day and I haven't gotten pregnant. The cons are that since there is no generic it is a bit expensive compared to the pills. I was paying $16 for 3 months with the pills and now I pay about $60 for three months with the Nuva Ring. You have to find a schedule that works for you. This took me a while. The best thing to do is put it in on the first of the month and take it out on the 25th. Obviously this depends on your cycle. The only other con is that my husband can feel it during sex and although it bothered him at first, he has gotten somewhat used to it.

Hope that helps.

I know you didn't ask about an iud, but I loved Mirena when I had it!! I got it after my son was born, and had it removed when we wanted to try for baby #2 (he's due in 7 weeks!). It was so wonderful not to even think about bc since it can stay in for up to 5 years! I was a lucky one...I never had a period with the Mirena (even after I stopped nursing my son). I barely felt it when inserted (just very mild menstral-like cramps for a few minutes), and didn't feel it at all when it was removed. I will be getting it again after this pregnancy. The biggest complaint I've heard from only a couple of my friends who've had it is they could feel the string if it wasn't cut short enough. All you have to do is call your dr and they'll trim it up for you.

I love the ring. I was on it for several years before I had my daughter and plan on getting back on it when I finish nursing. I never had headaches, weight gain, etc. No side effects at all and I didn't have to worry about anything. I definitely prefer it over the pill and would recommend it to you. Message me if you have any other questions. :)

Good luck!
