Advice on Healing Chapped Lips

My 2-year-old daughter frequently has chapped lips and I'm not sure what products are safe & effective to use. She is very interested in my lip balm (Carmex) and I've put it on her a few times but don't think it's the best thing for young kids (plus it seems to make her lips worse after a few hours of application). Any suggestions for kid-safe lip balm or as she calls it "lip goo"?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi J.,

I know that if you read the ingredients of the chapstick AND lip balm make sure that there is no petroleum in it. That is the ingredient that gets your lips "addicted". 90% of them have it so you have to hunt. Try to find ones that contain avocado oils, beeswax I use one called Vitamin Lips in vanilla, it also comes in berry and mint. Also Avon has a green tea one. Good Luck.

Burt's Bees has beeswax based products - most of them also have mint in them - and I love them for helping with my lips when they get chapped, as well as they have some nice lip glosses that don't dry them out. Check at the co-ops (PCC, Madison Market) or Metropolitan Market/Whole Foods/Trader Joe's if you can't find it in your grocery store (I know the U-Village QFC carries them, but am not sure if the other stores around do).

Hi J.. I have a nearly 4-year-old son who is always interested in my lip balm too! LOL! I highly recommend Arbonne's Lip Saver, SPF 30.
Say good-bye to sun-chapped lips and hello to maximum preventative care with Lip Saver, SPF 30. It's blended with targeted antioxidant ingredients that refresh, rejuvenate and soothe as it protects and benefits all skin types.
All of Arbonne's products are 100% Vegan, with no chemical dyes or fragrances, and no mineral oil (petroleum)! When you see petroleum (or some other form) or mineral oil on the ingredient list of lip balm, it's not going to help you. Petroleum actually tricks your lips into thinking they're moisturized when they're not. It's actually drying them out because it's blocking moisture from coming in. That's when you have to keep reapplying your lip balm because your lips get dried out FROM you lip balm!
You can check it out online at: www.mandyolsen.myarbonne.com. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Good luck!

Water, water, water....
I get horrible chapped lips as an adult. Someone once told me I was not getting enought water. So now when my lips get cracking, I use a dab of bag balm to soothe the pain( I am not sure I'd use this on a child for it tastes bad if it gets in the mouth), then I drink twice as much water as normal for a few days. I have found this more effective then any over the counter chap sticks, or lip balms. Belive you me...I've tried them ALL!!
Good luck!

I used to use Carmex religiously then I found out that it doesn't help - your lips get addicted to it. Something in the ingredients makes your chapped lips worse. So, you keep using it. I currently use Chapstick the green minty one. I work outside for my job - it works good for me. For a youngster..... she is two and you are using other brands....I'm sure you could try it. Is she sucking or licking her lips a lot too? If you suck or lick your lips, you are actually making it worse. When you do that, you are taking the natural "oils" off of your lips. When you have chapped lips you tend to lick them more often and that's not helping the situation. Good luck

I just have to say to the person that wrote "use satin lips by mary kay" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? ....LOL On a 2 year old? Use an exfoliator on a 2 year old? I can't even believe someone would recommend that to you for your little one. I personally would recommend beeswax like most of the other posters. It usually happens from their drool.....lol or if they chew on stuff alot they drool more and with the weather the way it is it causes chapped lips.

Burts Bees si what we all use. My kids love the stuff as well. They ask for "chap lip" at least once a day. It's found in the organic or natural section of stores. Apply it often and it gets rid of the chapped lips pretty quick.
They have a whole line of baby products but I am not sure if they make "baby chapstick" so we just use the regular stuff.

Mary Kay's Satin Lips are really good too. They take off the dead skin and it makes your lips really soft. You have an exfoliator and then the chapstick and you would use it right after you exfoliate and it feels so good. You should try it.

It's worth it. I have used it and it works.
