Anyone Else Had Umblicial Hernia Repair Surgery?

I had an umbilical hernia repaired on September 14th, I went through the usualy 3-4 weeks of healing and being careful when I bend and not lifting anything over 10 lbs. Then everything was fine, but just this past week I've had a decent amount of pain in around my incision area. The pain isn't in my incision itself, just around the area of it. It's a sharp pain, sometimes hurts for no reason, sometimes if I move into a certain position. It's not so bad that I'm doubled over in pain, but it did keep me up a bit last night, and I am just concerned I may have "ripped" the mesh patch somehow or something????

My dr is out of town, so I won't be able to see him next week - I'd just feel a lot better knowing that this pain is still within the realm of "normal"!!

Thanks,
S.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses ladies. I went to see my dr today and what I'm feeling is still in the range of "normal", he said it's just the scar tissue developing and that the pain is "tugging" as the scar tissue is forming and retracting and tightening. Still a bit of pain, but I'm just glad to know that everything is fine and I won't have to have surgery, yet again, lol. Thanks!

Does your doctor have someone that he can refer you to while out of town?
Honestly, I don't think that you should have anymore pain at this point.
Everyone is different, but 6 weeks is long enough for healing for a healthy, young lady like yourself.
I am sure that it wouldn't hurt to wait until he gets back, if you wanted to do that too, but I would definatly make an appointment for as soon as you can.

Hi S.,

Like the other mom, I also had the surgery, and do not remember having any pain once it healed.

You may want to have that checked to be sure there is no infection, or any other complication.

Good luck!

I had that surgery about 3 years ago and I don't remember having any pain after the healing, but I heal very rapidly. Every once in awhile if I stretch in an awkward way, even now, I'll feel a little twinge, but nothing like what you're describing. However, everyone heals differently and you could just be feeling a little residual pain since you haven't been using that muscle as much as you normally would. If it's not a lasting pain or something that has you doubled over, then I'm sure you'll be fine until your doctor is back in town. When he is back, do call him. He can alleviate any fears you're having. Personally, I think if you had ripped anything you would know. Have you tried palpating that area to see if anything feels abnormal?

You know i had this same surgery in 2006. I had the mesh put in also but within a week i developed an infection from the mesh. My tummy felt very warm and i was developing a fever every 4hrs. If you don't have any of my symtoms i think you mIght be ok. But do be very careful. Because since having the mesh takin out due to infection. The Dr only put a stitch in and now 2yrs later i am having the same pain again. The buring sensations the staying up all night with a weird discomfort. I am unforunatley going to have the hernia repaired again.Good luck i hope your pain goes a way soon.
