Hi I had my umbilical hernia repaired 3 days ago a patch was installed and it was laproscopic. Has anyone else had this surgery done and did they have severe swelling? I look like I am 3 months pregnant. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience. Thanks!

I had an umbilical hernia operation 28 years ago. The incision was one inch, and for being so small I couldn't believe the pain I was in. Anyway, personally, I had no swelling at all. It healed just fine, and five months later I got pregnant with my 3rd baby...who is a grown married man now! My scar can hardly be seen. It's really like nothing. I don't know if my experience is any help to you, but just thought I'd share.

Call the doctor and check. It could be gas. But if your have a hot, red area with swelling and increasing pain that is probably an infection. I had my c-section get infected and trust me, get it dealt with sooner rather than later (IV antibiotics are pretty unpleasant). My husband had this type of surgery several years ago and I do not recall swelling but it may not be the same for everyone.

I had a femeral hernia repaired two years ago. While mine was not laproscopic, I did have a patch put in and I did have a ton of swelling. I also looked pregnant. It went down after about a week. Of course, you should always check with your doctor, but I did have a similar experience.

I had that surgery last year and did not experience any swelling.. Did you call your doctor?? It could just be your body's reaction to the surgery. but you shoud call your Dr. just in case... good luck!

I have an umbillical hurnia and was just going to see about getting it repaired, it is getting pretty sore, was it painfull? Sounds like you should have it looked at to make sure everything is ok.

When I had mine repaired there was no swelling at all. Call and let the doctor know. You might need to have it looked at.

I had this surgery a few years ago and my belly was swollen due to gas. Anesthesia makes your whole system lazy and it can take a while to restart it. I did call my doctor about and I would definitely check in with your doctor. This is a very common side effect from surgery but always check with your doctor.
