My son had a hydrocele but it went away. But he also had an undecended testicle and we had Dr. Micheal Keating of Nemour's Hospital do his surgery for that. Dr. Keating was great to me and to my son. Even though my son was only 4, Dr. Keating talked to him and was friendly at the consultation, before the surgery and at post-op. He explained everything to me and answered all my questions (I always have a lot) and never made me feel rushed.
As far as the anesthesia part, Dr. Keating gladly gave me his statistics on how many surgeries he's done. I asked how many were successful, if he had any complications, how he handled any complications, who will the anesthesiologist, their statistics, and any other question I could think off at the consultation.
I googled everyone prior to the surgery and read really good reviews of both Dr. Keating and the Anesthesiology group they use. So it made me feel better.
Yes, there are risks and they will go over all that with you but definitely ask what are the possibilities of the risks occuring, what is the risk of not doing anything, what is the risk of waiting. Decide from there what makes you think is the best. If something comes up in the future, you have to be able to confident that you did everything you could and checked everything you can, and made the best decision you could with that - that's all you can do.
Good luck and trust yourself and that mama intuition.
