Anyone Take Dramamine to Disney with Them?

Wondering if anyone has used the motion sickness medicine, dramamine (sp?) before going to Disney World or any other amusement park for that matter? Does it help?

I used to be able to ride anything before I had children. Since having them, I have found myself to feel quite sick while riding rides - sometimes even in the car!

Have any of the mommies out there had any luck with this (for yourselves, spouse or kids?)

Thanks in advance

I'd try Ginger first. My daughter used it for car sickness, my husband used it for scuba diving when the waves were rough, the navy in Hawaii said they recommended it for their guys on submarines, etc., etc. I buy ginger pills in capsules and take 1-3 with a glass of water. Take it about 45 minutes before needing it. No side effects.

my mom, me, my kids are all motion sick. We all get sick in the car and on carnival rides. We were also planning a trip to disneyland this summer and I was going to try small half doses of the dramimine. Just make sure it is the non drowsy kind, the regular kind puts me to sleep almost immediately!

I took dramamine when I went on a whale watch. At first it worked great, no sea sickness at all. However, a few hours later I felt very odd and drowsy. I was able to take a nap and when I woke up I was fine.

You may want to take it ahead of time to see what type of effect it will have on you. I beleive there is also a non-drowsy formula.

I get very motion sick easily. I found this stuff that works great it's called motioneaze. It works very well. I went on a dolphin cruise for my daughter's birthday and was VERY concerned about how I would do (didn't want to ruin her day). The people at the cruise gave me a sample bottle of this stuff and it's amazing. What's really nice is there is no medication and children can use it too. It's made of oils (peppermint being a main one) and you dab it behind your ears. It lasts for 2-3 hours but because it's all essential oils, you can reapply as often as you'd like. The smell is pleasant, but the results were wonderful. I recommended it to my friend who was having problems flying and she bought hers at Whole Foods and it worked well for her too.

Good luck and have fun. By the way, I've been to Disney several times and never was motion sick. But, I don't ride the huge roller coasters. We are planning another trip in the spring and I can hardly wait! It's one of my VERY favorite places to go.

Blessings!
L.

I have to use drammaine when i do carnival rides and when i went to disney world. I would suggst if you don't want to use drammine, try peppermint candy and drinkning sprite/7-up or ginger ale. also try bringing some saltine crackers with you for after the ride. the crackers soak up the extra stomach acid that nausea creates. also on the rides pick a point (like teh back of the seat in front of you) to look at, if youride in the very front, the wind in your face may help, never ride in the back if you can avoid it. Try not to eat really heavy, oily, or overly sweet foods before you go. if all else fails, bring a barf bag with you, it may be embarassing, but not as embarassng as losing your lunch on the ride or in front of everybody. best of luck and i suggest to stay away from the teacups or anything that spins wildly out of control, i don't suggest space mountain, but tower of terror isn't really bad

I get major motion sickness, and dramamine puts me to slepp. Not an option for me. What about those wrist pressure bands?

As I've gotten older, I've had more of a problem with motion sickness. I have used both the non-drowsy dramamine and another product, Bonine. I prefer the Bonine, as it seems to make me less sleepy. It's chewable, which makes it easy to take wherever you are. So you could try some of the calmer rides without it, then take it about an hour before you try anything wilder. If you feel you need something stronger, you can talk to your dr. about getting a prescription for the anti-nausea patch. I haven't used one, but my sister-in-law said it worked great for her on a cruise. Enjoy your trip!

It works great, but take the non-drowsy kind unless you plan on sleeping all day. :)

I didn't get motion sick at all till I was 21. I use dramamine to fly. I still get nauseous, but don't throw up. I think it depends on your degree of motion sickness. We have to fly to Germany soon and I am nursing so can't take it. Dr told me to get the wristbands. gonna try them.

I would ask your MD about Transderm scop patch. It is a little patch you wear behind your ear. It works great and did not make me drowsy.

I use dramamine any time I will be in the car for over an hour, when I go to carnivals or amusement parks, and when I see an IMAX movie in the theater. Just remember to take the non-drowsy kind and it should work great for you at Disney. I second the avoidance of teacups. No drug in the world can prevent that nausea! Have fun!

I use dramamine in the car on long trips and I keep a supply of peppermints with me , the peppermint oil helps soothe an upset tummy. If Dramemine works with you in the car it will likely help on rides but I'd also keep some peppermints with me.

Test the dramamine now. I took it while riding in the car on winding roads and it made me feel loopy. I have the same issue since having kids and can't even ride the merry-go-round. I strongly recommend testing it before going. It may not react like you want it too. I heard there is some patch or something you can put behind your ear or those pressure clips. Look into it if the dramamine does not work.

I like taking ginger root supplement instead of Dramamine. It takes the edge off the motion sickness and then I don't have to deal with the doped up side effects.

MOST of the rides at DisneyWorld are not that bad...... How old are your kids? Because you CAN wait in line with them and then pass through when they get on the ride and you can wait on the other side for them (IF they are old enough to go on their own.......)

There are 2 rides at MGM Studios that I passed on and my husband did say they were pretty tough! But other than that, I went on everything else that everyone went on.
