The last few weeks we have been finding random bees in our house. Even when the doors have not been opened. They are usually almost dead. They are in the kitchen and dining room which are connected. There is a fireplace in the dining room that we do not use and have not used since buying the house 1 1/2 yrs ago. Do you think there could be a hive in there? Does anyone have experience with bee extermination or experienced a similar situation? I have a 3 1/2 yr old and a 3 month old, I do not want anyone of us getting stung. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

There may be but bees can also get in through small spaces. To be safe you should contact a bee specific pest control place. If the hive is removable, that would be best. Hopefully it's outside.

Beth is right, please do not have honey bees exterminated. Call a beekeeper.

What kind of bees are they? if they are honey bees PLEASE DON'T spray them or have an exterminator come. Call a bee keeper.
Honey bees are becoming endangered and with out honey bees we have no fruit or veggies.
With multiple bees being found in your house yes there is likely a hive near.
honey bees do not sting unless they are physically touched or they perceive a threat to the hive/queen.
take one day where it's quiet and listen around the house to see if you hear buzzing. you can also go out side and watch if you see any coming and going. and follow them.

You could very likely have a hive in there. Don't get an exterminator though, bees are vital to our food supply and are in great danger of becoming or are endangered right now. There are lots of places here in San Diego that will come and remove the hive and relocate it. We've used one before and they were great. I wish I could remember the name, but just do a yelp search for bee removal and you'll find reasonably priced bee removal/relocation specialists who can relocate the bees and the hive.

Get someone in asap. Hive somewhere. Might be fireplace, might be in
a wall. With two little ones in the house, you do not want to take a chance
of these bees getting out. I had a friend who had them in her closet and
had someone come in to take care of. If I recall, it was several visits to
clear up problem.

Yes, there are bees that live in houses, we've dealt with them. Go outside and see if you can see them flying in and out somewhere around the eves of the house, that's where the hive is. Call an exterminator.

We've had swarms attempt to set up house in our house before. They can get into vents and small gaps in walls and eves. We contract monthly with Dewey Pest Control for basic bug spraying. Bees are extra. They do a wonderful job. First I would slowly walk around your house and look high and low and see if you see bees coming and going. If you have a hive you will see constant activity as they come in and out. If you do you will have to have a pest control company come out as the honey and hive are very destructive to your walls and needs to be removed. Depending on the extent of damage and what it takes to remove it your insurance might cover it.
We have had random ones come in and get stuck in the house. There have been times when we have one buzzing in the window for no reason at all and it's gone just as mysteriously as it got there. If you have old aluminium windows they may be coming in through those little vent holes they have. This is how we think they may be coming in.
Make sure the flue is closed in the fireplace that you do not use. They could be coming in there if it is open even a tiny bit.

Oh T.! That is my #1 nightmare! There is nothing else that will paralize me with fear as much as a little bee. Spiders? Nope. Snakes? Nah. Bees..OMG I will pee my pants.

I hope you find a solution. Sorry I couldn't help. ;)
