Birth Control Question: Is Seasonique or Ortho Tri Cyclen Better?

So I have been nursing for a year and have been on the mini pill, but now I am done nursing and going to go back on my regular form of birth control. I use to take Ortho Tri Cyclen before I got pregnant and I had no problems with it. I think it even cleared up my skin. But now there is Seasonique out there and that is suppose to be better because you get less periods. But is it really better? Is it good to not have your usual period once a month? It sounds appealing, but I am not for sure that it is the right choice. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with Seasonique? Not for sure which one I should use now. Although I do like the fact that Ortho Tri Cyclen seemed to help with my skin...

What can I do next?

I used Seasonique and bled for 6 weeks straight. Some days it was very light and other days it was like I was having my period. This is a potential side effect of the seasonique pill. My doctor switched me to Loestrin 24 and I love it. I still get my period every month, but it is so light and only last for 2-3 days. Also it helped with my PMS. I used to get cramps so bad I would throw up. Now, I barely notice them.

I've used Ortho but not Seasonique.

I liked ortho for the resons you mentioned and did not opt for seasonique because I am a very fertile 40 yr old who never skips a period and the thought of not having on freaks me out to the point of me taking a pregnancy test everytime I skipped one. So...I'd rather have the monthly affirmation than have a panic attack wondering...or telling my poor other half to get away from me until I know for sure.

But hey...that's just me.

For the record, my son's girlfriend uses it and so does my daughter. My son's girlfriend says it's fabulous and cuts down on cramps. My daughter says for the first couple of rounds all she did was bleed.

Everyone's body is different.

Good luck to you.

I use Seasonique (the generic anyway) and have for over 3 years. I love, love, love it !!!! I used to be on Ortho Tri Cyclen but I think this is way better. My periods - when I'm not on a pill - are horrible and I have terrible PMS. I also have bad PMS on a regular BC pill. The Seasonique keeps me from having any PMS and not having periods are great. I have gotten to where even when I am on the sugar pills, I don't have a period. My doc says all is good and not to worry about it. I would definitely give it a try.

I have never tried Seasonique but I have been on the NuvaRing for years, except while nursing and was on the mini pill. I love the Ring and just wanted to say that I have never had any issues with it. No side effects, helped my pms, skin is clear, no weight gain from it etc. I love it. You may want to check that option out as well. Good luck!
