Try Payless. We got a pair of black ones there for my 2 year old. They were about $30 and are really cute.
Where can I get a decent (not tacky looking) pair of cowboy boots for a 5 year old boy, size 2? I'm willing to shop online but I really don't want to spend $50 on boots he'll out grow in months. I'd prefer to keep it around $30. I've looked on craigslist a couple times but there aren't any. My son's birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I'd like to get them for his birthday. I'm cutting it close and need to find something soon. Thanks!
I bought a pair of boots one size up from ebay and they were way too big so I just got another pair from ebay. The second paid fit much better and he'll grow into the others. Thanks for all the suggestions.

You may have to go into Scottsdale, otherwise here is our local boot shop. www.bootbarn.com. You won't hit your $30 budget, but $39 will do it. I can't imaging there isn't a Western boot store in in the Phoenix area.
I've purchased cowboy boots for my boys (Ft. Worth Stockyard Show & Rodeo is coming up!) at these places....
1. Walmart - not leather, but had a cool camo look to them, and looked more like cowboy boots than rainboots (this was last year. this year they are looking more like rain boots)
2. Once Upon A Chile - children's consignment - definintely hit or miss, but you can find real leather cowboy boots that are barely worn
Good luck,
A.
The one we got cost a pretty penny, but they have been passed on from one girl to the next and my kids feet are slow growers.
We got the Billy boots from frye. they're unisex. Check out ebay. They may have a barely used one under $50
A friend bought my son some awesome snakeskin cowboy boots at a Western shop in Florida. They were $45! Yikes. He doesn't have kids and didn't realize that was lot to spend on kid boots. Needless to say, my son ADORES them! If he could wear them everyday, he would. Fortunately they are not allowed at preschool. But, be sure to buy one size up so you get your use out of them. And I don't regret spending the extra money at all!
Depends on what you want to spend.
Walmart
Payless
for good boots but not leather.
Real cowboy boots made of leather
I would go to a western wear store. Here we have them all over the place. Even the old General stores carry them.
I'd try some western wear stores in your area. I find them all the time. If you can't find them then perhaps it's just the wrong time of year for them...
One other place that you can look is at the "farm" stores in your town. Around here we have stores such as Orchelns, and Tractor Supply. I have noticed that they usually have kids boots at those places. Good luck. Look online for Walmart and Target too, because sometimes they have stuff online that they don't have in the store.
I bought cowboy boots for my granddaughter at Shoe Source. They did not look tacky. Try the discount shoe stores. Call ahead and ask if they carry them.
I got my sons at Payless. look online
My girls have always had a pair of cowboy boots, real ones are not cheap. Western stores are the best but you can find gently used on Ebay for under $20. Look for brands like Justin or Roper.
People say you shouldn't buy used shoes but in this case they were always very lightly used and for our purposes were fine. They were more for parties and special occasions not so much everyday wear. Kids shouldn't really wear cowboy boots everyday anyway, not great for the feet.
