is it normal for you to have milk come out of your breast after not breastfeeding for over three years? I only breastfed for only 3 weeks.

What can I do next?

Your question is of interest to me - I am going on 4 years and still experiencing this! My youngest will be 4 next week and it's been on-going for me.

However, I did have my thyroid tested and that came back as normal. I actually bring it up to her and every year I get blood tests done and nothing is revealed. My doc says that it is unusual but more of a nuisance (to me) - since we can't pinpoint a medical cause.

Let me know if you get your thryoid tested ... I might have to see an endocrinologist to resolve this! Thanks and good luck. :)

You should see a doctor, because this isn't normal. I would not think about it in terms of breast milk, since it's been 3 years, but rather nipple discharge. I had it several years ago and it turned out to be an underactive thyroid.

Here's a really good article on it:

I have heard this can happen if you are pregnant? Could that be a possibility? Otherwise, I don't know!

Same thing happened to me. Only when I was in the shower though it was wierd. But it wasn't anything to be alarmed about.

Yea it is. I never breast fed and I leaked a LOT milk for 8 or 9 months after I had my daughter. Not to mention that I started leaking when I was only 5 months pregnant. My nurse told me that in some women, it never stops. Next time your at the Doc, mention it but I dont thinks there is much you can do

My daughter is 15 months old. When my aunt seen her for the first time she was only a few days old. My aunt is in her 40's, she hasn't had kids in 21 years. My daughter started crying, and my aunt just started leaking. She told me that she still leaked if she heard a baby cry. Like I said she hasn't had a kid in about 21 years. She said it was normal for her, but she is no doctor. You could call your doctor just to make sure everything is ok!

You should see your doctor about this. There are many medical conditions that could possibly cause nipple discharge like what you are describing.

Is it possible that you are pregnant? Leaking can occur during pregnancy. If not, I would see your doctor asap.
