My 2 yr old daughter got inside our car this past weekend and decided she wanted to "decorate" the inside of our car with lipstick... we have cloth interior... how on earth can I get this out? What have you used that will work without making it a bigger mess (as in smearing it even more)? I got it off the windows, stearing wheel, and dash board but have no clue how to get it out of the seats..... Any suggestions PLEASE!!!!

There is the Awesome orange cleaner at Big Lots. It is the "everyday living" brand. It worked on chocolate milk, deodorant, chapstick, and even this sticky transmission stuff DH got all over my seat!

bonus, it is like $1.50 a bottle and safe to use around the kids and pets, all with a lovely orange scent. I use it literally in every room of the house. I usually use at least a bottle every week!

SOL-U-MEL is 10% tea tree oil, which can cause breast enlargement in some boys and is suspect as being an endocrine disruptor in girls, too. Until further research proves it's a limited problem, I'd avoid using it except in very limited circumstances where children wouldn't be exposed to it much. A good alternative cleaner is made from citrus oil and so far has given no evidence of long-term health problems: Citra-Solv: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009LA744/ref=pd_lpo_k2...

Use SOL-U-MEL. It’s a mother’s dream!! It gets tough stains out of EVERYTHING! It took out permanent marker from our couch upholstery and I recently used it to get old stains from our carpet. It took crayon off the wall in one swipe! It’s amazing!!!

I know exactly what will work. i had bright hot pink lipstick on my carpet and this is what I used to get it out and it is safe for your family, home and environment. It is called Melaleuca's Sol-U-Mel by Ecosense. if you are interested in learning more about it or how you can get it just email me at ____@____.com... it is also great on permanent markers too.

I'd contact the car's manufacturer and ask what they recommend - surely you're not the first person who's had this happen.

Because lipstick is essentially a petroleum based product, it may need a special kind of solvent to help pull it out of the seats.

My other recommendation is to check out the Queen of Clean - she claims she hasn't met a stain she hasn't been able to get out. I've used her tricks a few times and have been very pleased.

Zout works really well with non-food type stains like lipstick, make-up, and permanent inks and things...I would try that. Hope you are able to get it out!!

I've never had to get lipstick stains out of anything that I can remember, but my go to stain remover is simply baking soda and warm water. I use a solution of approximately 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda to approximately 8 ounces (1 cup) of warm water, dissolve the baking soda in the water and use a clean light colored towel to dab and blot until the stain is gone. I've gotten marker stains and blood stains out of my couch with this as well as 2 year old dark green gel pen ink stains out of the upholstery in our truck.

I've also had great luck using baby wipes to get stains out of all kinds of fabrics. Carpet, upholstery and even clothes. My mother sat in something red (not sure what it was, but not ketchup) at six flags once and I used a baby wipe to try to get it off and the stain came out completely with no problem.

I'm sure there are many commercial stain removers you could try, but you might try one of these "home remedies" first to see if you can do it cheaply before spending any money on something you may never have to use again.

Good luck!

Blessings,
N.

I'm with Kristin. Solumel has gotten everything out of anything at my house including red lipstick in the carpet right in the center of the room. It has a very high concentration (T36-C5) of melaleuca alternafolia oil ( tea tree oil) and is a natural solvent.

The best and proven way to counter this is to use steam cleaning, a steam cleaner warms up water so much that its made steam and due to this (the warmth and penetrative nature of steam) it can clean/melt the lipstick that is now stuck in the car seats and the cleaner will use some cloth to pick up the stains, it will take time but it can be done using this method. What I will recommened is that you goto a professional steam cleaning http://www.detailxperts.net/services_locations_mobile_det... service that will get this off, I will recommend DeatilXperts for the job.

If it happened to me, I'd pull out the regular 'ole Resolve Carpet Cleaner. That is - I've never tried to remove lipstick stains off of carseats, but I do use the cleaner in my car and it always does great.

My daughter got hold of lipgloss and got it all over the couch. I used Woolite upholstery cleaner and it did a great job. It even got out from the cushions that I had run in the washer. The washer did not get all out and I thought they would be grease stained. I think I paid $4 at Target for the bottle. It is a blue trigger bottle, like Shout or window cleaner, not an aerosol can. It has also gotten out ice cream, pen ink, dirty finger marks. My poor couch has really gotten abused over the past several months but you would not know it (after it has been cleaned anyway)

If you can find De-Solv-It try that. I haven't used it on lipstick, but have used it to get oil drips (olive oil) off of shirts. It's safe to use and works wonderful. I've even used it on clothes that went through the dryer and didn't know it had stains and it removed it. In my opinion, it works better than Goo Gone.
