We have the D3100, they scanned it with our carry ons. They didn't even open the camera case.
Hi all,
I'm going to be flying this next week and wanted to take my nicer camera with me, a Nikon D5100. Will the airline make me put my camera through the security check or will they take it from me and inspect it seperately? What would happen if my camera did go through security with my other belongings?
TIA!!

No issues with cameras. You just have to take laptops out of the case in and in a separate tote for the machine.
I've flown all the time with mine, never have I had an issue.
It'll be fine. Each airport might handle it differently, but all the data will be fine.
You can put your camera through security in a case or bag. I have never had any problems with doing this. Have fun!
I take my digital camera through security and there have never been any difficulties. There were problems with film cameras because of the nature of the camera film and the nature of security x-rays. But digitals don't seem to be affected. I just put the camera in the tray and send it through.
Just flew last week with our 5100. We had all our electronics in one carry one bag- kid cameras, our camera, two gps devices, a DS, Mp3 player and head phones. We never had to open the bags. Nothing was damaged. It was really a non- issue.
