I got some bad news today about my little cousin. He is 16 years old and was just diagnosed with a very rare GI disorder that has a 1 in 3 fatality rate. It is so rare that there have only been 500 diagnosed cases in the history of English-recorded medicine.
I have written about him a few times before, usually when someone asks a question about getting their tubes tied, or not wanting to have another baby (that they've already conceived.) My cousin, Danny, was his parents' "bonus baby." He came along about 13 years after my aunt had her tubal. Now with his life hanging in the balance, I just can't imagine what his parents are going through. He is their BABY, and such a good and sweet kid. The family has already gone through other hardships this year, including my uncle's brain surgery, my cousin's miscarriage and divorce, and having to put their grandparents in a nursing home.
So, if you could...extra hugs and kisses for your little ones tonite.
I was already giving my little one a long cuddle because my mom just found out that her cousins' son lost his 3 month old to SIDS. Now when I see him tomorrow morning (He's spending the night at his daddy's), I'll have to give him another long cuddle!
That is an incredible story and they have my prayers. I will be sure to sneak in an give my son another bed time kiss. Thank you for reminding us to never take a minute with our children for granted. Best Wishes to you and yours. :-)

I hope they are going to the very best GI doctors. We have a very good friend at U of Chicago and he is amazing and is asked to speak all over the world. I would recommend going there.
