Why can't Canadians join Mamapedia? Would anyone be bothered by a Canadian on this site?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

When you register it only accepts a US postal code. I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to pretend to be American. I've been careful not to spell the Canadian way:) Sorry about all the answers. I've been enjoying it. I'm a little addicted, sort of like facebook in the beginning. I'll slow down once the kids start summer vacation!

I'm confused.
I m in Ireland and I'm here.
It says on my profile I am in Albany because I just gave a zipcode 000 as it doesn't give a code for Ireland

ok, that's interesting. Maybe that's why there are international mamas on this site w/ U.S. zips/cities listed w/ their names ...

Like the others said they just use another US town rather than thier own country... My sister who lives in Canada used our hometown...

I think that the repsonse to this site exceed thier expectations a bit...

OF course they also do not have to deal with foreign laws if they are not officially providing a service in that country, so there may be that as well..

Ha! I have an American spellcheck, or all my colours, flavours, and theatres would be spelled correctly. Unfortunately it doesn't grab my mums, so I have to be careful there. I AM American, and live here, but I was raised mostly overseas and publish in the UK.

But as to Canada....

(Hum with me)

Blaaaaaame Canada!!! ;D

We have parents from all over: Continental US, Asia, EU, Elsewhere... Just not a lot.

Welcome! Welcome! Just pick a zip code and you're good to go. For awhile this (mumbling expletives) platform would assign one for non us post codes, but now you just have to pick one.

(And like rather a lot of Americans, I try to be mistaken for Canadian overseas... So hey... Turnabout is fair play!)

I have no idea what you are talking about. There are people from all over the world on this site. They do NOT have it set up for other countries, but that hasn't stopped people from joining!!!

Haha, just refrain from saying "eh" too much and you'll pass for an American ;-)

Luckily we can't hear each other's voices in this forum , or you'd out yourself anytime you say "about"

Per your SWH - There are those who have actually made a point to fuss at British and Canadian spellings, telling them that they don't know how to spell. (Though I think they only said it because the person was stirring the pot big-time and being very in-the-face with a post that got people riled up.) Personally, I don't mind seeing British and Canadian spelling at all. It does make more sense to those of us who actually know other countries have different spellings. Some Americans don't even know that. It also makes more sense to people WHY you use those spellings. With the problem of not seeing where you are really from, we don't know you are from another country if you don't tell us.

Original:
We do have Canadians on this site, and people from China and Korea and Japan. (More probably, but these are the ones I know about.) They just have to sign up with a city and state in the US.

It's not their fault that MP has this way of coding. And truly, to protect anonymity, some people here put totally different cities and states from where they live or where they are from.

It is not excluding you. The site I mean.
Websites, are designed/developed by web developers and programmers.
When they program and develop a site, the input screens, are programmed a certain way. Obviously, per this site, the programmers input USA postal codes. They did not, input the cities/states, postal codes or zip codes or country codes, for the entire world.
Hence, the registration "form" to join this site, will not "accept" certain formations of postal codes or country codes or zip codes. In the USA, the postal codes/zip codes, have 5 digits. Not all countries are this way. There are many different numeric codes, for each country/region etc.
But it is not being, exclusionary or saying only "Americans" can join.

Hence, the site is not saying Canadians cannot join. Nor other people from wherever.
It is all about, how this site's programmers set up the website and its components/windows/input screens/registration screens, etc. and developed it.

There are members here from all around the world.
Parents, grandparents, Dads.
Even a kid now and then, comes on this site. Kids.

And obviously, the website Owner(s), did not anticipate, that parents/grandparents from ALL over the world, might want to join this site.
