We are in the process of changing out our light bulbs for CFL's. I have a ton of lamps and I'm very particular about lighting but want to do my part to help environment. Does any one know of a certain brand of CFL's that give off good lighting. The kind that I'm buying give off a yellow light. I keep trying different kinds with no luck.

What can I do next?

I too have been changing my home to the CFL's. I have found that those labeled White Natural light provide stronger light and do not have the yellow cast which can effect your home colors. Most of the major brands have the natural light, but not all stores carry them.
I also like the fact that they seem to last longer. A note of caution, you should not dispose of used ones in the trash, save them for your hazard waste pickup.

I would check with a local lighting store. They might even have a display where you could see the difference. Once you have a better understanding, buy the rest of the bulbs at a store with better pricing.

I am picky about lighting too...I buy the ones they sell at Costco and they are pretty good.

There is a great one at IKEA that has a frosted glass "bulb" around the CFL. The light it puts out is much more natural and there isn't that pause you get from most of the spirals.

HI! When you are looking at the packages, it doesn't matter what brand, they have different "colors". For the most natural light you want the daylight or the blue bulbs. These will give off the most natural light and make your colors (paint, furniture, skin)look more vibrant and beautiful. The other colors are the "warm" light or red, "cool" light or white. The warm and cool light is usually good for the garage or laundry room, they give off that yucky yellow flourescent glow. But the daylight or blue is best anywhere you do work, in the bathrooms (especially moms for make-up!). GOOD LUCK!!! and remember you want the daylight!!!!! (p.s. CFL's don't dim, so if you have a dimmer anywhere most wont work, there are a couple starting to come out but not many and they don't come in all "colors" usually just the "cool white")

My mom had a "Day Light". It gave off a beautiful blueish glow that made me ask immediately what kind of bulb it was when she turned on her lamp. I'm assuming that it was a CFL, but not sure. I hope you find one, and good for you for making the switch!
