It's International Women's Day, duh! We're supposed to be celebrating each other! (Link in SWH)

(TY Mamy of 2 for pointing it out to me!)

What women (personally or in history) inspire you?

Google told me so. The Google symbol is all pro-female.

In honor of this event, I would like quote a great lady.

Well behaved women rarely make history.

I'll throw this one in for fun

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.

Aww!

I know it sounds like a cliche but for me, the biggest one is my mother.
She is such a strong woman, she has go through so much and still have a smile on her face and always available for who needs her.

Then of course are tons of women out there that I admire, famous and not famous.
Madre Theresa de Calcuta.
Frida
Juana de Arco
Oh my, I went blank on the history ones =*(

But honestly for me, today, is just about women power, mothers or not, young or old.

Hurray for us and thousand thank yous to those brave women that fight for women rights and equality.
Hard to believe that not always we had as many rights as today.
Suck that still on some (very few) areas where we still don't have as much equality, but we have done a lot and believe we will get more done!

Hurray for us!!!!!!!
Hurray for be able to wear skirts or pants if we want!

Happy day women's day to all.

Hmmm, shame on me as I forgot to mention my wonderful daughter.
Last week I went to her school, and teachers couldn't tell me enough things about her, they said I should ask for the AP program at highschool.
She has her interviewer in after spring brake!

But besides how good she does at school, she has being my partner of life and my reazon to fight in the most difficult times.
She is talented, funny and smart, I wish I could take credit for those but I know is not me, she is just that good =*)

Its also "Be Nasty Day" (what the heck defines that??), and National Popcorn day!

I work with kids so I am thinking to NOT celebrate the nasty thing one! Too many ways that could go seriously wrong for me!!

I know it sound sappy and cliche..but my Momma inspired me all the time. A housewife of the 1950's...sock hops and poofy dresses in high school. Trained (literally) to BE a housewife. Married at 19, spit out a girl and boy in the first 3 years, right on schedule. Moved to a new state away from all of her family (and stayed seperated from them completely cuz of hubby..his rules, he was in charge). While he continued affairs, she was the "in the dark" housewife who did what was expected of her. Until I was born 14 years into the marriage and she found out about his activities.

She gave birth to me, and 9 days later loaded up her 4 children and flew back to the family she had not seen in 10 years. But it only lasted 3 mos and she came back to 3 more years of chaos until she was out of it. My entire childhood was spent dirt poor in a falling down house, with a jerk of a Dad who lived 4 houses away and did nothing about it but be sarcastic.

Mom went to night school in her early 40's (I was about 9/10) and got an accounting degree and that made our lives different. She was the first, and only until 2010 when I got a a 2 year degree, in my entire family to have a college degree.

But we had love, and respect and understanding...and fun! My Mom made our lives as great as she could and I honestly would trade none of that because I would not be who I am today without it. I miss her every single day (she died suddenly in 2007).

I don't have much. But I have a very talented daughter who will go off to the college she wants to go to, with a decent scholarship offer. She is a great kid. Witty and smart and fun to be with. So creative and talented!

I wish my Mom was here today so I could tell her my news I got today. I got accepted into a bachelor program in Early Childhood Education (while maintaining my 60 hour a week home childcare business). If I can make the money work, I start in May. Its a really really big deal in my family. I will get my BA before my daughter finishes her own degree and if I really really can make it work, I will push thru to the Masters program.

I suppose Mom already knows, huh???

Happy Ladies day!

personally:

My mom inspires me. For being a mom & dad while my dad was at sea for months at a time. For keeping the house together and everything else...and now taking in my Grandmother - and having her MIL live with her for now almost 20 years....

My sister. Walking away from an abusive marriage after being in it for 20 years.

Political:
While I don't agree with her politics - Hillary Clinton inspires me. She takes the bull by the horns and gets things done.

Condaleeza Rice - I wish she would be a tad bit more assertive but she handles things with diplomacy and finesse.

I'm sure there are others. But I'm not "there" right now.

I had no idea I am wearing my foil hat to block the solar flares so maybe it blocked that too, lol (jk).

There are a lot of women throughout history that inspire me. I am mostly thankful for the ones that gave up so much for women to have equal rights. Living in this day and age people really have no idea what is was like for our grandmothers, great grandmothers, etc.

It amazes me how much things have changed since my mother's generation (she's a baby boomer) and mine (gen x). Then I think about women in many other countries and I get so upset and hopeless. Especially when I see men - and women - in this country trying to take us back a few decades. So I guess I am inspired by the women that have and are trying to change things for the greater good.

Women are awesome and wonderful and necessary! Yay us!

(men too but get your own day)

Princess Diana and mother Theresa one was beautiful and young the other old and wrinkled but they were beautiful in that they inspired others to help the poor and the sick. Also Lucille Ball did so much to bring laughter to our lives.
