Celine Dion, she was one of 14 kids growing up in a poor family and made something of herself. Also I think she is a classy lady with zero scandals for a singer.
Also Shania Twain she also grew up poor and made a career of her talents and she also doesnt seem to appear in any scandals, as far as I know.

I'm weird. I like Dolly Parton. Sure, she's had a ton of plastic surgery, but she grew up on dirt floors in Tennessee with 11 brothers and sisters, became a savvy businesswoman and gives back. Every child born in her county in TN gets books for the first five years - starting with The Little Engine That Could. Dollywood was created in part to give jobs to the community. When her old pal was down on his luck, she bought his music, and then later gave it back to him. She's been described as being down to earth and appreciative of her life. She's been married to he same guy for 40 some years. My DD could do worse than to aspire to be Dolly.
There are a ton of good role models, though. Mother Theresa, Eleanor Roosevelt, Helen Keller (or her teacher Ann Sullivan), Marie Curie, Amelia Erhart...
Couragous female...meaning having courage. My vote would have to go for Rosa Parks...can you imagine the courage she would have had to have what she did on that bus that day. You go, Rosa.
Well, the first person who came to mind is Bethany Hamilton, the girl whose arm was bitten off by a shark while surfing.
There is a movie about her called, "Soul Surfer".
This girl has the most amazing attitude.
Having something so horrible happen to her as a teenager could have really caused her to feel sorry for herself or focus on being disfigured. She's done the exact opposite.
I think she's incredible.
I'm looking forward to seeing who the other moms think of.

Good suggestions. But do not forget about Aung San Suu Kyi !!! (As a young adult, seeing "Beyond Rangoon" helped me get a little perspective of what was going on since the news media was kept out during the time, this movie helped me imagine the courage it took to stand up against tyranny, and on Feb 13 they will release a movie called "The Lady" about her, but you can find info about her pretty much anywhere).
Also, Corrie ten Boom and her sister Betsy (I think her story, "The Hiding Place", should be required reading for everyone).
