Constant Dizziness

I have had constant dizziness and light headedness since Saturday. It was realy bad Saturday and then got somewhat better Sunday and Monday. My doctor didn't act concerned at all. Saying It is part of pregancy and I have to live with it.
Is this true? I mean, I have heard of dizzy spells, but being dizzy all the time?
I have low blood pressure and she said it makes it worse for me than someone who has normal pressure. Is there nothing I can do? It's affecting my job and making me tired all the time. Has anyone else experienced this too?

I forgot to mention my blood sugar was normal when they tested me yesterday.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the advise. I am so glad to hear I'm not alone with this. I didn't think it was a common problem because I never heard it mentioned by any of my sisters who had babies, or my mom who had seven.
They did test my iron, and it was high. I try to drink lots of fluids, but it's hard to get used to making yourself drink all the time. I never realized how hard it can be to try and drink eight glasses of water a day and drink the milk I'm suposed to also.
I had my mother in law check my blood pressure again and it was 80/58.
Thank you for all the advise. I'm so glad I found this web site. Everyone is always so supportive. thank you again.

Hi Particia
The same thing happened to me. I took my time with things and drank lots and lots of water. Maybe you should take some iron

Definitely increase your water intake. You should be drinking at least a gallon a day! I know that seems like a lot but your body needs it. You can try Floradix Iron and Herbs. It's amazing. It doesn't constipate and it makes a world of difference. At least it did for me. You can find it at the Vitamin Shoppe and most health food stores. I would also discourage caffeine.......anything.

good luck! and take care!!!! and Congratulations!

I had this too with my pregnancies. My third (and last!) pregnancy was so bad that I blacked out one day at work and they sent me home because they were afraid to deal with it so I spent the last three months of the pregnancy home feeling lonely and depressed.

The doctor seemed unconcerned also but did have a neurologist check me just to be sure. The neurologist said some people get what he called migraine episodes, you don't have the pain just a dizzy feeling and they can come more frequently with all the hormonal changes in pregnancy. My blood pressure was also really low, once they were checking me in the office and it was 72/50 and it set off their alarms. So maybe a combination of the two were happening for me. Hopefully things will get better after the baby is born.

I, too, had low blood pressure when I was pregnant. Dizziness came with that territory. I could not take a shower without eating first. Do not worry about - it is natural. =)

I had this really bad with my first pregnancy so bad where if I stood up I'd black out. My doctor told me to continue to take the prenatal pills and then gave me ones with xtra iron in them. After that I was ok. So maybe you should check your iron.

Dear P.,
I understand what you must be going through, because I once busted my ear drum and through my equillibrium off. I have never felt so bad as that time.
Have they checked your ears? Maybe an EENT is a good start. Being pregnant puts you in a bad spot as far as having to take meds.
Do you know what triggered it? Have you always felt this way since you became pregnant? Are you eating properly? Are you able to rest well? Try to keep the stress down, this may also be factors to your situation.
My friend used a formula throughout her pregnancy that has everything in it (B vitamins and folic acid etc) that made her pregnancy and delivery a breeze, if you want to meet her call me ###-###-####
God bless you and keep you....

I had several days like that too during pregnancy. They said at first it was dehydration then when it happened again I was diagnosed with Vertigo. Yet again told it will go away on its own. Good Luck

if you continue to have these symptoms and arent satisfied with the diagnosis then ask again it must be terrible feeling that way sorry you are going through it , with my first pregnancy I developed hyper-tension/pre eclampsia and I was nt allowed to drive for a while due to blacking out it wouldnt be for long maybe seconds to 1 min but thats bad enough..although they checked my blood sugars they couldnt pin point it til onece I had a bad dizzy spell and they found out I have hypo glycemia where my sugar can drop out of no where so maybe just incase carry a few candies in your purse and definately seek out more info. I wonder if you could have an inner ear problem?
my cousin is an avid swimmer and developed dizzy spells from an inner ear problem wich threw her off balance....good luck hun!

Hi P.,

I had the same problem, and for me it was iron as someone else mentioned. The doctors did not test for low iron (anemia) until the 6th month or so, and then they prescribed that I take 3000% of the daily recommended allowance. That is right three thousand percent! I took it daily, and the dizziness went away. It could very well be dehydration too, but no matter what it is, I hope you can figure it out regardless of your doctor's nonchalance. Good luck!

I had this accompanied with heart palpitations and feelings of panic. I thought they were just panic attacks, but because one spell lasted over an hour (just an hour - not a whole week) my OB sent me to a cardiologist. It turns out I have SVT. It's nothing serious but can be aggravated by pregnancy and be very uncomfortable. The cardiologist said mine was minor and didn't even need treatment, but my OB put me on a mild beta blocker the last few weeks of my pregnancy to prevent any attacks during delivery.

The advice the cardiologist gave me was to cut out ALL caffiene (including chocolate), keep the stress to the minimum, and anytime I had an attack to lie down and rest.

The rest of my pregnancy went without a hitch and I have had no symptoms since the baby was born.

If your insurance covers it, I would definitely ask your OB to see a cardiologist and make sure everything is fine with your heart and blood pressure. The tests were very non-invasive, just an ECC and EKG.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

look on the internet for foods that are good for anemia. Also get yourself a very good protein powder at the healthfood store. Start your day with a very good beakfast, eggs sausage, etc and the protein drink. You are manufacturing another body and your body needs lots of nutients. Vitamin E is good for getting oxygen throughout the body.

Have lots of healthy snacks at work and you can also have a protein shake during the day. Unfortunately it is a proven fact that doctors are NOT trained in nutrition.

There are multitudes of websites offering nutritional information.

I have experienced this when I was pregnant and now from time to time. Generally it's when I'm stressed or have a headache. Sometimes I'm just tired. I would just watch how active you are during the day. Their may be something you need to slow down on. Be careful getting out of bed or slow standing up. It could very well be the hormonal change is taking a toll on your body. Yes it is very possible for it to be normal for you, after all every woman and every pregnancy is different.

i have low blood pressure naturally also. the best "treatment" i have found is to eat foods higher in salt and drink lots of liquids - gatorade and sweet tea seem to help the most. there are now medications to help with low blood pressure that may be helpful, also, you should probably be evaluated for vertigo (i have this problem too - so i understand the dizziness all the time issue)

you may want to ask them to check your gycemic levels...I had dizzy spells and it was because my blood suger was getting so low....this is the opposite of getting gestational diabetes....but sometimes feeling dizzy is something that can happen...try to eat something, have a glass of water anf get up slowly....

I had nearly constant dizziness when I was pregnant with both my boys. I also had very low blood pressure... sometimes 50/90. Just make sure to take your prenatal vitamins (for the iron) and don't get up very fast or move your head very fast. It really sucks and I'm sorry you are going through it. I believe that my doctor said it really isn't an issue unless you truly do pass out. Sometimes doctors are really NO help :) Best of luck and hope you feel better soon. Jen
