I have the swivel sweeper which cost $40. I used to use it every night after dinner, but the battery has been dying lots more and it has to be charged more. Now it's in my bedroom closet and I just use it for my bathroom.
$40 isn't much for a vacuum, but it did the job I needed. I did not have cheerios or big food chunks either. It does NOT work well for sand (we have a sandbox and it gets in my kitchen) and it doesn't work very well on area carpets.
You can use a cannister vacuum on a hard wood floor if it has the option to turn off the power brush. I have a Sears cannister and you can turn it off and I can use that on the wood floor. I liked the swives sweeper better since it did a better job of going around the island.
