She needs different shampoo - I like Jason's Organics. And we just use "grown up" conditioner on my daughter's hair. Only in the back so we don't have to worry about it getting in her eyes. Then we brush when wet. Good luck.
My daughter is 3 and has tight curls..if its wet it goes down to middle of back but when dry little past shoulds..i need help on how to manage it..i was her hair in johnson shampoo for curls..and also have to spray no more tangles just to bruch it..and this is not working to well..she hates having her hair brushed...is there anything i can do or use to make it easier..it stays so tangled and hard to bruch..i want her to love her hair..it is really pretty...but she hates it

I have to deal with this with my daughter, a bit of a different type of hair but the same problem. We spend so much time trying to brush it out from tangles. I finally figured out how to manage it. I stick with the kid shampoo but splurge on an expensive adult detangler/conditioner. I put this in her hair after I wash it and before we go to bed I braid it. Each morning I take the braid out and wet it down to get the natural curl back. I works great. It only takes me a few moments to comb it out as opposed to the 30 minutes it took before.
Good luck!
P.S. Every once and a while her hair gets tangled again and when this happens, I find a show she loves, sit in front of it, add more detangler/conditioner with water and comb it out while we watch a show.
I have very curly hair. I always fought it all my life and in these last few years I discovered I like it. I wash/condition my hair and while it is still damp I put in a bit of Aphogee Gloss Therapy, I buy it at Sally's, it lasts forever because it only takes a bit, I think this is the most important step. Then I use a bit of Pantene's hair gel in a tube or some Pantene mousse for curls. It only takes a tiny bit too. Then I don't brush my hair or mess with it all day. I put a hair comb, plastic band, or barrette in the top to keep my hair out of my face all day or pull it up and clip it in the back to make a fountain/cascade on the back of my head.
I don't even worry about brushing it at night because it hurts. The next day I can usually brush it out after spraying with the detangler and get it really damp and put it in a French braid or again pulled up on the back of my head, like a French twist with the longs bits hanging out the top. A pony tail is always an option too. If you Google curly hairstyles you can get inspired too.
Both my daughter and I have naturally curly hair. I use WEN on my hair, but am concerned about the menthol possibly getting in my 3 year old's eyes. For her, I use Organix conditioner only. I do not use shampoo on either of our hair. Don't worry the co-wash gets the hair clean. After I get her out of the bath, I use the organix coconut milk gloss. Start on the ends and work upward with your fingers. Then I use a wide tooth comb to get all the tangles out.
I bathe my girl every other day. So on those second mornings, I just rewet it with a water bottle, take a small amount of the conditioner in my palms, work it into my hands like lotion and then work it through her hair. My baby has very bouncy, silk curls, but you have to take care of it.
:)
1st off DON'T use a brush. I have super curly hair and my daughter is mixed (white/black) so she has even super curly hair that is very tight but no texture.
You dont want to use a brush. Use a combe. Wide tooth unless you need to get small curls then you can use a smaller comb. Get a good detangler or leave in. Best I have found is Infusium 23.
She also needs regular shampoo and conditioner. Try Dove or Garnier Fructis. When she gets a little older try Motions.
Google Curly hair help.
Also products by Miss Jessies and Mixed Chicks are awesome!
johnson and johnson is horrible for children's skin/hair- period. It's super drying and they use a lot of masking agents to make the hair look "healthy" and the perfume the tar out of their skin products which in combination with the detergents (in both hair and body washes) tends to dry things out.
Try Wen hair products on your daughter. I bet you will both love her hair afterward.
Have you tried having her sleep with a silk scarf around her hair? It will help prevent the sleepy-tangles kids tend to wake up with- or another great option is to buy satin pillow cases for her bed.
Good luck
I have to agree with Sara. Leave in conditioner is a good option alond with the wide tooth comb. Don't forget to get her hair trimmed regularly as the tips are the first to get dry and are the cause of a lot of tangles. When you wash her hair try to be a gently as possible so that it does not get to tangled in the process, as well as combing when she has conditioner in it.
I have very curly hair and this is what I do and use on my little one. First off don't use a brush that hurts and pulls some of the pretty curl out. Use a pic, much easier on the head and keeps the curly. Use shampoo and conditioner for someone with curly hair and then use the detangler. After the detangler I use Garnier Frutics (sp) the smoothing milk and then a little hair gel. Hope this helps. Just know that she may never like her curly hair. As I have gotten older I have come to like it more, but I sure wish sometimes I could have short staight cute hair! Good luck.
I have a perm and what I do is use a wide toothed comb to comb it before I take a bath. Brushing is one of the hardest things with hair that curly, but a wide toothed comb isnt so bad. There is also a product - Johnson No more Tangles leave in conditioner that works really well for me.
