I want to have a mother daughter day with my 5year old, but I don't know what to do. What have some of you done to have a special day out with your daughter? We do lots with the whole family which is why I can't think of what do to with just us. I don't think a museum would work and I want to do something other than take her to a store. Any suggestions would be great.

What can I do next?

You have gotten some great responses. If you girls are into this, maybe you could go to JoAnns or some crafty place and take a class. I so wish my mom would have done that when I was younger or even now!!

I am taking my little one out for a girls day right before her baby sister arrives. We are going to go to the local beauty school and get mani/pedis. She is still tiny and won't remember, but I want to have this fun little day with her. The reason we are going to the school is because it is sooo much cheaper and you get to keep the nail polish that they use. :) Would your daughter enjoy something like that?
Or maybe take her to see a movie or out for lunch. 5 year old little girls love to feel grown up. I don't know how "girly" your daughter is but there is a little tea house in our area that I can't wait to take my daughter too. I think it would be so much fun to get all dressed up for tea for a day.

I took my daughter to the nail salon this weekend. Yes i could paint her nails but for $6 she had them "professionally done" and felt like she was a queen. We then went to eat at her favorite place............other things we have done is let her have her day.......set a limit and let her make plans as to what she wanted to do on her day. SHE LOVED IT! (sometimes she would pick bike riding with mom, baking cookies, eating a subway, window shopping, having our picture taken together, playing dress up etc.

I've been in the same position with our 2 1/2 year old daughter. Here are some ideas that might be fun regardless of age. Hope this gives you a good start!
1. pedicure or manicure either professional or at home
2. a trip to the library to pick out books
3. trip to get ice cream
4. science center trip or museum with mommy daughter lunch
5. picnic in the park with mommy complete with toys to play

Hi,

What about paint your own pottery and lunch or dinner? I've done that with my daughters (and so has my husband) and they were just thrilled. The best part is a week later you pick up your pottery and have a physical memory forever!

I think it's great to have 1 on 1 time with your kids. I do girls days just with my daughter (8) and my husband a lot of times will have dates with my daughter. When he does that, my son (4) and I have our own dates. So we make that a priority as a family. For mother/daughter days, I do things that my daughter likes to do like mani/pedi and lunch, go to the the park, bake, have a game day and play board games, or go to a movie that's out that she wants to see. I think whatever you do, you can't go wrong as long as you are spending time together and engaging her. I read the Love Language for Kids book and quality time is my daughter's love language so this is really important for her. Have fun!

Sorry for the outdoor suggestions; living in San Diego my daughter and I do a lot outside. Sometimes, just singing, dancing and playing dress up at home is a blast too!

I recently took my twins to get their hair cut for their bday, and they got their nails painted, and they thought that trip was something else. Must be a girl thing, but they instantly turned into little princesses. We also go to the park/playground (obviously weather permitting), and long evening walks. We love to pour the markers on the living room floor and just color for about an hour, or do certain crafts like making jewelry. There's a place in Twinsburg called Jazzy Jems (or Gems) and you can walk in, sit down and make jewelry together. Interested to see the other moms' posts, to give me some ideas as well.

My daughter is 10 and loves one and one time with mom. We usually take a long walk and just talk.....she loves it! She even will ask if we will have time after dinner some nights. We also have gone to the high school music, band/orchestra concerts, just her and I, also loves this. Sometimes they are free too, not all of them though. We have a science center by us and also there are a few museums and some metroparks that offer fun events. My girlfriend told me there are some days that are free, just go onto their websites to check for dates. Have Fun!!
