Hi! What do you think of the programing in the Disney channel? I'm not talking about playhouse disney just mostly all the shows after that?? My daughter is 6 and I feel like they have no shows geared to her at all.

I do like a couple of the shows Good Luck Charlie, and Phines and Ferb but I just feel alot of them are sooo out of her age range.

Last night she ended up in my bed because of the movie my Babysitter is a Vampire. I guess it's my own fault but I think because it is the disney channel it would be not so bad but I'm def not to sure anymore.... and don't even get me started on that Shake it up show. I wanted to get you wonderful smart mommies feelings out there :)

What can I do next?

Yes I totally agree with this. My son is 2 and he loves mickey mouse and some of the other cartoons however the rest of the shows are not geared to him at all. I picked up that channel because it was disney and they are children friendly. But not happy about the other shows. But now I am re-thinking that!

At 6 my kids still watched PBS and Nick Junior. Actually my boys were a lot older than that because that was what we watched until my daughter was 6, she's 8 now and her oldest brother 11. Now my boys are basically aloud to watch whatever they want on the channels that I haven't blocked from their tv, lol. And my daughter and I enjoy wizards, and hannah, good luck charlie, and suite life. But since the boys will generally not let her watch these shows upstairs, she does watch them with me. Poor girl got the short end of the stick and she can't get cable reception in her room.

In general, I am a huge fan of Disney. I even own stock. However, I am not pleased with what's happened to the programming lately. I know what's going on, but it doesn't make me happy.

So, Disney XD was launched to try to capture the male "tween" audience. Phineus and Ferb, Zeke and Luther, Pair of Kings..... (they're very into the male duo.) I would much prefer the Babysitter is a Vampire series was reserved for that channel. However, Disney is due to launch a new channel that is all "Playhouse Disney" all the time. That is due out next year and will be taking the channel vacated by the Soap Opera Channel.

I also am not pleased with the new Disney Junior block, nor the fact that a lot of my son's favorite programming is now on between 4am and 8 am. Thank goodness for DVR and On Demand.

I also think that the only reason for Shake it Up is to try to bring back everything that was bad about '80's fashion. Ick! I do, however, enjoy Phineus and Ferb a lot. I think it is about something pure of the childhood spirit and there is no lying or deception. We're taking our kids to see the stage production this fall. I am so looking forward to that.

Look for the new Disney Channel next year. In the meantime, I would definitely curb the afternoon viewing.

We do not allow Shake it up or I Carly. I do not want the kids to start getting the idea that sneaking out to go to a party or treating your little brother badly is normal. Carly's friend is the most obnoxious and rude person on any kids show. The little ones don't understand they learn a morality lesson due to heir bad behavior...they see the bad behavior and that the characters think it is cute. On Sharlie they focus on the older kids and moms driven desire to be a diva/famous TV star that I can't stand it to be on. The kids watch it in their room. They are quick to tell me when the TV shows come on I don't allow if the other kid doesn't change it quickly. Cartoon channel is just as bad. My 4 yrl old wants to watch Johnny Test all the time. And I don't need him acting out the more violent fight scenes from all those others shows.

We did watch Hanna a lot but as she started being older and having more grown up situations the show was no longer for kids. It is sad but they do grow up. ANT's is cute and I let the kids watch it, again though, it is going to have inappropriate shows due to them being younger kids in high school. I say watch OETA or whatever channels your state has for educational TV.

The TV guide is getting horrible too!!!! Oh my stars!!! They have R rated movies on it at any given time. Now that Yahoo doesn't have the TV guide on my home page I have to rely on the preview guide to know what is coming on and it is almost all the time that it's a horror movie or some sort of sex scene. I think we should ban together and let them know it's not desired or acceptable.

I agree that the programming on the Disney channel is either for toddlers and preschoolers or for tweens and teens. When I was a kid the Disney channel after school was our reward for a day spent in the clutches of teachers lol. There was the Mickey Mouse Club and Kids Incorporated. Or we could head over to Nickoldean and watch Hey Dude. Yes these shows were also geared for tweens but there was never any of the underlying sexual tension everything is infused with today. Our shows were all innocence. I remember watching cartoons and princess shows on the Disney channel at age six, but now even some cartoons aren't age appropriate. Where have the wholesome shows of our childhood gone?! I agree with some of the other mommies that Nick Jr., Sprout, and the Hub, are great. My son is only two but many of the older kids in my daycare enjoy the older cartoons on Hub, plus I must admit I DVR Fraggle Rock just for mommy lol!

My kiddos are younger, but as soon as Playhouse Disney is over, the TV goes off or we change the channel. I think Phineas and Ferb is annoying plus I wonder what my girls will pick up (tattle tales, lying/deception, etc.). We have a bunch of shows on DVR, too (Sesame Street, Dora, and the playhouse Disney ones), and we have a huge Veggie Tales collection.

I can't keep sane with all the "drama" and bad acting on the other shows, and I need all the help I can get staying sane. :) Plus, I figure if they're going to watch a show or two, I want it to be ones that they have to interact with and answer questions - like Mickey, Dora, etc. Lame plots of teenage drama seem to be a waste of time and brain power. :)

I agree with you. My daughter loves Disney Jr. but its only on for a short time and she is too young at 4 for the other shows. Phinese and Ferb are her favorites now. I did see somewhere that in Dec 2012 they are going to have a Disney Jr channel. By then your daughter may feel that shes too old for it. She does watch Nick Jr sometimes. I limit how much tv she watches but Disney doesn't have much on during the times she can watch tv.

I think Disney is finding itself competing with Nick Teen, however there is Disney XD (a channel) that sticks to the cartoon type shows that you may want to see if your cable provider offers.
http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do?aid=xd

It still has some of the shows like Zeke and Luther, Pair of Kings and Kickin it, but we typically watch the Hub (another fav channel) should one of those be on when he would like cartoons.

I was never a big fan of Hanna Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place I found myself watching if Disney was left on, but that Selena Gomez is quite a fireball. I have not actually seen Shake it Up, however it never got my attention as something to put on. Good Luck Charlie I think I cought about half an epidsode and moved on. I try to give them a chance by me watching first and then see if this is something for my son or not (age wise) however Phin & Ferb are house favorites! We even have episodes on the Ipod we like it so much!

Oh and another thing I do not like about many of the Disney shows it in almost every show and every episode is that the kids are smarter than mom and dad and that it's ok to "outsmart" your parents because there is always an out to a punishment.

I personally like Good Luck Charlie, for me...not my 6 yr old. I see a lot of defiance on that show. P&F is ok. Absolutely will not allow Babysitter is a Vampire. Luckily my 6 yr old and 3 yr old still like Dora and Jake and the Pirates...Not a huge fan of most of what they offer, too mature for my audience.

We watch nothing but the cartoons on Disney. And our favorite is Phineas and Ferb, OK I admit, I love P and F, but my youngest is 10.
We also watch only Looney Tunes on CN and sometimes my 10 yo will watch Pokemon, but I am not too thrilled with that one.

We used to watch the disney channel all the time. But the programming is starting to stink these days. So we watch Boomerang, or CN or she watches DVD's. We do watch Phineas and Ferb. I love that show too. We also watched Hannah Montana and the Jonas Bros and she loved Sunny with a chance. But now that they are all gone there is nothing left. I really don't like So Random now that Demi Lovato is gone. I loved Sicky Vicky, that was funny. I will not let her watch My babysitter is a Vampire. It looks to scary for a 3 yr old. Good luck Charlie is ok and Wizards is getting kind of boring. A.N.T.S. is kind of cute and she does like Shake it up but that is because of the music and dancing. She used to like Suite Life with Zack and Cody. But they are gone too. We do watch DisneyXD but their shows are stupid. I think its two kings? with Mitchell Musso is just down right dumb and now they have Kickin it with Jason Earl from Hannah and I don't care for that too much either.
The disney channel used to be on all day even f she didn't watch it just listened to it while she played. Now its off and we watch or do other things. Disney better step up and get some educational programming or they are going to loose alot of viewers.
I do love the morning programs though. She loves the Imagination Movers (we took her to a live show and she loved it) and Mickey and all the others. But when that ends she looses interest. I know what time P & F comes on so we watch that. I just don't think that channel is very good anymore.

I HATE most of the "teen" shows. A lot of the characters are so sarcastic and backtalk adults and everyone else. I don't need my child learning that behavior from TV, so she gets minimal time to watch. She's at the age where the cartoons are getting boring. I have watched Shake it Up with her a few times - it's not as bad, but the "attitude" is there. My niece watches these shows, and her mouth sounds just like one of these actors. I want to cringe. If you find anything good to watch - let me know!

We don't watch much Disney Channel anymore. My son is 9 and is too old for Playhouse Disney and I find the other shows too irritating. He does occasionally watch Suite Life on Deck. He prefers Nickelodeon stuff, like Spongebob, iCarly, Tuff Puppy. We watch together and talk about how bad behavior often has a bad result. Most of those shows have some shaky moral lesson. We do struggle over his desire to watch Cartoon network. I can't stand those shows. Adventure Time makes me want to dig my eyeballs out with a spoon and Chowder makes my head ache. The animation and subject matter are just awful.

we don't do much disney channel at our house...other than, like you said, playhouse disney. we do nick jr and sprout. instead of turning on a channel and letting him go, most of the time i just turn on a show for him from our dvr (he LOVES the old transformers shows and HUB has them on late at night) and then after 30 minutes his tv time is over. (or maybe an hour...i'll be honest, sometimes i let him do 2). it's easy for me to say, because we are not tv-in-every-room, dvr-in-every-room kinds of people - we have 1 main tv in the livingroom that we share, so we take turns. but no, i don't think disney channel is appropriate unless your kid is a tween (and even then i would hate to allow them, i think they are SO obnoxious...glad i have a boy who isn't interested in those!)
