WTH IS THAT?! If you didn't understand that, I mentioned I actually received a WORK email typed like this? Since when is ignorance 'cool' and ACCEPTABLE?! Drives me freaking INSANE. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT YOU'RE SAYING!! What is that even called and how on earth did it start?! Ridiculous!! If I ever caught my kids writing/typing like that, I'd voluntarily put them in summer school for the rest of their lives...

Thoughts??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

@Jubee, I responded by saying 'Please respond in English... Google translate was no help.' Maybe that was rude and un-customer-service like, but whatever!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect... if any of you have been on my FB, you know I only use lower case letters. Why? Because for the longest time on my old computer, the caps lock and shift bars didn't work. It' just part of my FB identity now I guess. BUT I would never be caught dead typing that short-text ____@____.com!! AND I'm a bit of a grammar/punctuation nazi. God Bless my English teachers!!

I have never in my life received an email like that. Why can't you respond back to them, "Please translate into English. I don't speak text."

Yes, It drives me insane! It looks childish and uneducated! I can't read it half the time so I don't bother! I have no clue what it's called or who started. I hope the craze comes to a end soon though!

I do use shorthand sometimes when texting, but that's not what you're talking about. What this is seems to be for 2 groups of people: a much younger generation & people that wish they were part of said younger generation. It seems to me that the people who will send emails/texts/FB msgs like this tend to speak this way & I'm guessing find it easier to write the same way they speak. It is definitely annoying to read, I know this with absolute certainty.

I hate that, especially when it is someone my age. It does not make you look cool and hip, it makes you look stupid, like you are trying to be your kids.

What really tweaks my melons is when you mention how annoying it is and the person doing it says that I am just old. No I am not old I am just not insecure about my age and trying to compensate.

I'm with you. I think it's easier to use this kind of short-hand when texting but when it starts getting carried over into other things (like work e-mails), that's just sloppy and unprofessional. I am afraid of my teenage stepsons and other young people forgetting how to write and spell properly when called for. Call me old-fashioned, but I would not allow my daughter to type this way either if I can help it (she's only 4 so who knows what the trends will be once she is a teen!).

My 22 yo has one of those super fancy phones. He has Myspace and FB. He always types out his words and corrects people who send text speak to him. This is the boy who failed English his senior year on purpose. Now he corrects other peoples' spelling and Grammar. He started this to piss people off, his sailor buds, but he has said his friends are now writing out full words to him.

While this may be ok for kids and text messaegs, this is NOT an appropriate way to communicate in a professional setting. This person needs to be educated on what is work-appropriate, otherwise they look like an idiot. I think we may get to the point where people are given remedial grammar classes at work because they forgot everthing they ever learned when they no longer had to go to school, they were legally permitted to drink alcohol, and they had an identity based on what cellular product(s) they use.

Annoying!

But if your customer service job is to respond to issues people have with a website or blog, then I think you can "prolly" expect more of the same...

People often abbreviate when they text, but that is an extreme example.

You are not alone. I can read it, but I can't stand it. I see it in text messages, facebook and on forums. It's ridiculous and sad that people are just okay with being stupid or at least coming off as though they are.

When are people going to realize that text talk isn't appropriate at certain times. Work e-mail is def. not the time or place for this type of language.

I think its the dumbing down of our school system. Texting makes it worse. Schools no longer teach phonics and new words are a mystery to those that weren't taught phonics.

Dads and moms shoud teach their sons to lift the seat when they stand and pee. To me the message you typed is peeing on the seat.

Good luck to you and yours.

Round three on this topic! LOL!! I guess it seems that people don't always expect the most professional mannerisms out of people today. I ALWAYS double check my work emails, or when I am applying for something, or speaking to someone I look to hire. Work emails should always use proper grammer and punctuation, as well as leaving out the shortcut words you laid out for us. Though I did get a good LOL out of this!! Now on here and FB, I do my best, but I do not double check everything I do, especially if it's from my beast Blackberry!!

I had a woman OLDER than me (I'm 44) I met at a networking event (businessowners helping businessowners) send me a text like this. I ignored it since I couldn't figure out half of what she was trying to say. And it irked me the first contact she had with me was via text. I get emails on my phone so it would be easier to just send an email in my opinion.

I never abreviate anthing, even in texts to my hubby. I don't use u for you or ur for your or you are. I just think its stupid and annoys the ____@____.com out of me as well!

The only thing I can imagine is she sent it from her phone, but why on earth would she do that? Bless her heart..

My Stepmom had a young intern earlier this summer that was completely clueless about how to work in a professional environment.. She was chosen through a low income group that supports students getting ready to leave for college. These are the first children in their families to attend.

My SM had to teach her EVERYTHING that a person should already know. How to dress, how to answer phones, how to do the most basic things.. And yes, to use the computer and spell out the actual words and to spell check it too.

We spoke about how our parents were able to educate us about professionalism in any and all jobs before they sent us out there, but many of us had also been instructed at school. They just do not have time to do this anymore.

I get the feelings either parents do not take the time to do this before they send their children out into the work place or parents think through osmosis their children should know these things..

I think its funny how many people responded with 'slang' in their own answers and how you even used WTH (What the Heck/Hell) in your post and not refering to what the email said.
People answered with:
OMG (Oh my God)
TXT (Text)
FB (FaceBook)
YO (Year old)
DEF (Definitely)
LOL (Laugh out loud)
MSGS (Messages)
I think computers and texting or emailing has just become such a part of society and life is so rushed that people will use whatever means possible to cut even a minute out of their day

I think it has a LOT to do with texting. My kids have started it. It is so incredibly annoying! If you are typing a letter or writing one, use proper words. I have warned my kids that if they want to write for themsleves, fine, but any notes or homework or real letters had better be proper words and not some short version of words leaving off most of the word.

I can't stand it! Sometimes I can't even figure out what some of those words are. I guess these are shortcuts while texting/typing, but many times there's only one of two letters left out. Is it really saving time!?!?!?

HAHA Most of that is text or chat typing! I understood the whole thing. =)
My text messages look like that sometimes because I have limited space.

I would not say it's ignorance except for the bad grammar and use in a work related email. They were probably just trying to save time.
