I have a bunch of baby items (toys, clothes, a stroller) that did not sell at our garage sale. We just learned that Amvets doesn't take the baby equipment. Does anyone know of a charity that will take baby equipment? For that matter, is anyone aware of a charity that will pick up other furniture (not baby-related) like beds and tables? Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

Hi, My name is K.

I don't know of any charity, but I work at a daycare and there are many low income families that could benefit from your donations. And I do have some parents that may be willing to pick up used furniture. If this is something you may like to do please contact me and let me know what type of furniture it is. And if the furniture is in god condition or if it just needs to be removed. And even if you decide that this isn't the way you wanted to donate your items, May God Bless you and Yours.

Thanks, K.

Purple Heart might. Good luck! If not, Salvation Army might too or at least take the baby equipment.

I am also a member of Will County Mother of Twins Club and one of the members/previous President has been helping a family out and they could really use these items. Below is her message. If you are interested in helping out this family, please let me know and I can put you in touch with her.

Hello everyone. I wanted to put this question out there for as many people as I can from our club and since not everyone is signed up yet for the Yahoo Group, I am going to go ahead and send it out this way. Please sign up if you haven't had a change that way we can avoid doing mass emails like this. Although, I think this is important and a special request...

Most of you know I am a special education teacher. Well, I have the privilege of working with some fine young men and women and occasionally you come across the really "special" ones that you take into your lives and into your heart. There is one family I have become very close with over the last 10 years. All the children were in special education in some way or another. One daughter just got married to another former student in my class, and I was invited to be the maid of honor in her wedding, and my daughter her flower girl. It was such an honor!

Well, her sister Patty is now pregnant and due in October. The father is not in the picture, and the family of 4 is (and has been ) living in a hotel in Joliet. She recently just had her baby shower and I am sad to say that she only received some clothes, some blankets, and a couple of diaper bags. She is going to need everything still, and I don't know how they will get it or afford. They do not have a car for transporting either, so I often help out in this area too.

My request is that if you have some baby necessity items that you are ready to part with, you might be willing to share with Patty. She is in great need of a used bassinet as they can not fit a crib comfortably in the hotel. This is the most important item at this time. Although, anything would be appreciated. She is thought to be a having a girl. If you are going to be selling fall/winter items size 0-6 months and you can part with some that would be great! Pjs, coats, shoes, etc. would also be great, and even leftover size 1 diapers if you had extra. I really appreciate any help you can provide. Please contact me by email, and/or feel free to bring donated items to the upcoming August or Sept. meetings.

Hi there-

What a nice thing you are doing! My immediate referral, if possible, is to find the young mom who sent out several e-mails a couple of weeks ago. Her name is Toni and she is a young girl about to be a mother. She had sent out a request a couple weeks back looking for some additional things for her baby. One of her e-mails is included below. I can't seem to find the one requesting baby clothes and gear but she seems like she is in a tough position, with little support. Maybe you can help her?

HelloFrom: TONI M Date: Fri. Aug. 04, 2006 hello.......Does anyone know of any good boy names? I am trying to look for a name that is different and unusally............If you know of any good boy names please let me know thanks

A little about me:

I am a teen mother about to go into mother hood....

My other suggestion would be to try some inner city organizations to see if they take donations. There are a lot of young/unwed parents out there. Your offer to help is a god-send and I hope that you are able to donate to some people that could benefit from it.

Best wishes,
N.

D. - you can try the American Cancer Society or Salvation Army. If they don't take anything - you can see if the store Once upon A Child might be willing to accept them and you may get some money for them. Also- try a second hand shop affiliated with a local hospital or charity - they may accept the donations as well.

Have you tried contacting the Salvation Army? They take furniture and have pick up available. Here is a number you can call to schedule a pick up - 1-800-95-TRUCK. HTH
