Droid vs Palm - Anyone Made the Switch

I have been a long-time Palm user. I started out with the Palm V and now have the Treo. I am in the market for a new smart phone and am thinking of going to the Droid (Eris or Incredible), but don't know how it compares to the Palm. (I am thinking of switching because of the uncertainty of Palm, the company.) I use my phone as my calendar and task manager. Everything is written in it: appointments (for the family), birthdays, address/phone book, task list, to do list, grocery list, etc. So, if I go to the Droid, will I still have all the functionality of the Palm.

What can I do next?

A 6 year Treo user, I switched to Droid when my 2nd Treo phone microphone broke in December. Verizon did not want to replace and actually only sells Treo's on-line or over phone. Treo was not carried in the store that i went to anymore (what i was told by sales person). Verizon covered it under under the one year Treo warranty, let me replace with Droid (Motorola version). I love it! i have no problems syncing with Outlook for email, calendar and contacts using only the $29.99/mo. data plan on top of the regular usage plan. The camera is much better and has a flash. the apps i have are great. Phone is heavier than the Treo and would recommend screen protectors and case. Very glad I made the switch.

The biggest problem you may have is that Droid phones cannot sync with Outlook. I don't know if this has been addressed with the most recent versions that are coming out this summer. I am looking at the HTC Evo on Sprint (4G phone) and that is something I am weighing. (I currently have the Palm Pre)

I've read they offer a "premium" upgrade Driod app for $50 that will let you sync, but last I knew it didn't work if you had a 64 bit system. I haven't researched past that. I just know Outlook sync isn't included, isn't easily obtained.

Something you might want to look into :)

I don't have the Droid, but my boyfriend has been talking about getting one. Based on his research, it seems to run with all the Google apps, so it's the google calendar etc. I use Google Calendar now and it runs a lot like Palm (different colors for different calendars etc). Hope this helps.

I also use a Treo and use Outlook for my main calender then connect and transfer all that to my Treo to take with me for the day. I'm also thinking about buying a new phone. I'll be watching to see if you get any helpful answers. :)

My hubby has a droid and loves it. Once you learn how to use it, it is quite easy...
