Ok, so I gave in and let my 4 yr old daughter get her ears pierced. I originally wanted to wait til she was around 6. Ok, so its done and she did great, not a tear or nothing, she was soo proud of herself and she looks adorable. BUT, the people at Claire's in the mall put the dots on her ears and I noticed that they were OFF, not even. I Told them that and they said they would just use the corner of the one and they would be even. So dummy me, I just thought well ok they know what they are doing and I asked are you sure that will work and be even, they said yes. Well, 2 ladies did it and it is NOT even.. The one is quite noticeably higher, and maybe I'm anal but it bugs the hellll outta me! What should I do? Leave it alone? Take one or both out and let them close and have them redone later? Anyone have experience with doing that? She just had them done yesterday 7/8. Please help mommies
I took pics of each side, email me if it will help you respond and I'll reply with the pics :) ____@____.com - Thank you!!!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses, I decided to let them both close up.. It was driving me so nuts that I had them taken out the very next day(the same day I posted this). So I hope they'll close up nicely and we can have it done right somewhere else! I went back to Claire's and the manager was totally snotty and was saying they could only justify doing one ear over! Well, I don't like that idea! If there is 1 earring in and then when it comes time to do the second one again, I think having one earring in will throw it off! I don't want it un-even a 2nd time around! Then this crazy chick was trying to tell me that she could re-pierce them right then! What! She said she'd just take it out and move the hole totally. Ugh, that pissed me off.. So I went to this lady at Piercing Pagoda who was really helpful.. She took them out for me (my daughter would have fought me) and told me that she doesn't recommend only taking one out and agree'd that she would take them out also. Claire's wouldn't even take them out for me ("they don't do that")-omg.. So, I'm going back to the lady at Piercing Pagoda in a few weeks to have them re-pierced. So far they look good, when the earrings were taking out there was no bleeding(thank god). The only problem is that I can't get that darn purple marker off where they originally marked them. Thanks again mommies, you guys made me feel better about the decision I made.

hmmmm.....well let me ask you this is it that noticable? or do you just notice because your looking that close. I say leave it for now. If it bothers your daughter when she gets older she can get it re-pierced then. She did so good by not crying and it proude of herself I say let it go for now.

Sometimes the level of incompetence and lack of professional customer service amazes me, but it is the growing reality of many retail businesses. UUGGHH!
I think you are making the best decisions: first, to let her ears close up and get it redone correctly; then second, to have a more professional and trusted business do the second piercing. There is no way I would let Claire's touch my duaghters ears again (even if they offered) after the kind of screw-up you described.
Lastly, I would highly suggest you write a professional letter describing this situation and send it to the management of Claire's -- to that location and the national headquarters. Just search on-line for their website to get the various names and addresses that you need. Sometimes, it takes some serious written voices to make a difference for other potential customers in the future.
I hope that this all works out into a positive end for you and your daughter. Please let us know how it goes with the new place you plan to use. Perhaps I will take my daughter there when the time is right -- certainly not to Claire's. Thanks for sharing.

Hi A.
I'm Ms Dee Dee out in Oak Park, I never experienced this situation, but I feel that your not going to be satisfied until you do something about it. personally I would take them out and let her ears close up and try again later, (talk to her and let her know why you are doing this). Also deal with the people at Claire's they should not be allowed to make that same mistake. Good luck! congrats on your new baby, and you can contact me at ____@____.com

I would simply go back where you had them pierced and ask them to fix it. That would mean having one of them pierced again, but they should be glad to make it right.

I would approach them with a positive attitude, and I doubt they'd even question you.

That's always worked for me in anything.

Go ahead and take the one out let it close up then have it redone. What can it hurt,it will drive you crazy anyway. Oh ya, show it to the manager at Clairs and make them do the 2nd time for free.

That would drive me crazy too!!! I'd let it close up. I think you have a chance of that now, but later, it won't close up. I haven't worn earrings for many years and mine have never closed up. Do it now, don't wait. But definitely go back to Claires, see the manager and let them have it!!! There is no excuse for that and they need to know that people won't accept that carelessness. I have heard many bad things about Claires. They don't seem to care about what they are doing, from what I've heard. They should give you a raincheck to come back when the hole has closed up and do it correctly.

Ugh! I'd be upset.
