Emotions Out of Control

Hi moms. Lately I feel like my emotions are completely out of control. I feel like I can cry at any moment, and my temper has become very short. I never had a long fuse lol, but the last few months it has been really short. I had my hormone levels checked last year and they were perfectly normal. I'm only 37 so I don't think its menopause or anything like that. I have had a rough year so far. I had horrible health issues at the beginning of the year, but I have fully recovered. I am having a hard time at work lately, I want to quit but I have not worked up the nerve to do it yet. Maybe it's stress. I plan on making an appt with my dr, but in the meantime I thought maybe someone could give me some advice. Some days I feel like my wacky emotions have control over me! I don't know whats wrong with me lately. Should I go to my family doctor or my ob/gyn? Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

What can I do next?

You said you've had a rough year, are you taking time for yourself at all? Are you able to exercise, like maybe take a 30-min. walk every day? I feel out of whack when I don't exercise, I'll get a short temper and become emotional and sensitive. Winter and spring is tough for me because of the cold wet weather we get so much of, I feel like such a happier person in the summer and fall months. Maybe it's partly seasonal?

I think you should go to your family doctor or ob/gyn. But in the meantime, ask yourself:
1.) Do you have a support system? Friends? Family? Clergy?
2.) Do you have an enjoyable hobby like reading?
3.) Are you isolating or withdrawing from people?

I'm no psychologist but I do know from experience that these are symptoms of depression.

But again, I think talking to a doctor is the first step, and reach out to a support system..

Good luck.

Is a "break" an option for you? If you possibly at all CAN, I say take a weekend and do something you love doing. I think below are good suggestions as well.

I do think you should see a doctor. If it is stress, acupuncture is very soothing and releasing...

Try to get 8hrs of sleep, 30 min of light exercise, vitamin B100 complex every day for one week and see if it makes a difference. You may or may not be able to do this regularly beyond one week (ie nightly hours of sleep) but you may be surprised how huge of a difference this makes. And it's free (other than vit B, but that's optional). If it doesn't help then look further into medical help.
And then there is meditation.

It sounds like me when my depression decides to rear it's ugly head. The stress very well could be causing it. I can't help with an answer other than make sure you tell your dr everything. Try to keep a journal or record of what is going on when you have a mood shift. When you feel yourself getting out of control, put yourself in a short time out if possible. Just to concentrate on breathing sometimes helps me. Good luck and know that you are not alone.

Are you on hormonal birth control? Sometimes that makes everything wacky.

I know when I don't take my pills like clockwork (same time, every day) my emotions go into over drive and I'm a disaster to be around.

Good luck...
