There are a number of churches in the area that have food pantries. Aldersgate Methodist is one, they are on Starkey Rd., and and there is one just off Seminole Blvd and 110th, you would go right off Seminole, and it is a couple blocks up. Also try Pathways on Seminole and 8th Ave N, near the post office.

As for beds and such, I'm not sure. Try Goodwill, or the Salvation Army, or some of the thrift stores. Second Chance on 19 is great, and has lots of stuff, as is Northside Christian on 66th.

Call 211 ~ this is a community help line. They can direct you to agencies that give financial assisitance and housing.
They may be able to get counseling also as they will probably need it, dealing with this.

There is a website called freecycle.com that has things people are giving away for free. There is also a soup kitchen - St Vincent de Paul in Clearwater.

I would check with the county department of social services (maybe DCF?)as far as getting some temporary assistance. As long as she qualifies financially, they will help her with some living expenses such as rent/utilities, food stamps and even vouchers for basic furnishings (probably used). This will help in the short term.

As for the husband...she should file for divorce now if they have not already. At minimum she could try for a court order for him to pay support toward the handicapped child, maintain health insurance for the child, as well as the possibility of some alimony which will help with monthly living. In the documents, she would state the current situation and that he took everything that was joint property....

Have you tried www.craigslist.org? They have a section there that people post "free" stuff. I see post all the time for all types of furniture. Usually the only stipulation is that you pick it up. Good luck.
