a few years ago -i did the best detox ever--I did it for a month then stopped for two weeks and did it for another month--i must admit-i never felt better, had more energy, or slept better than any other time in my grown adult life. It is very healthy for you and comes from the best source ever--the bible--it is called a "Daniel Fast"--it involves only eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains-unprocessed-like plain oatmeal, any kind of beans and basically anything that" comes from the earth-(grows)--like nuts and seeds etc.--I lost 40 lbs in two months and had soooo much energy as well as my skin and hair looked the best ever at that time in my life--Its hard at first but by the fifth or sixth day you will be used to it already--No meat or Dairy products of any kind--no sauces etc.
i have never felt better in any other time in my grown adult life--I did lots of water and a few vitamin supplements as well as a lot of juicing my own fruits and veggies--stay away from adding xtra sugar or salt to anything-i.e.-use lemon, garlic or any kind of fresh herbs to season salads-or vegetable soups etc. honey is ok too as it is natural---U might give it a try--it could literally work wonders for you--a shorter version is just to do it for 10 days-like "Daniel" in the bible did.

Two really good resources are "The Fat Flush Plan" by Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D, C.N.S; and "Toxic Relief" by Don Colbert, M.D.

I know Gittleman has a website you could peruse for further information. I think it is www.annlouisegittleman.com but if not, just do a search with her name. Colbert may have one, also.

Good luck! I think that is great...I need to do the same. In fact, I believe Gittleman recommends doing a cleanse with the changing of the seasons.

Another avenue to explore, to enhance the effects of your detox, would be to check into colon cleansing. Sounds horrible but the experience is not so bad. I did it a long time ago when I was having lots of allergy problems, and with diet and colon cleansing, I felt a lot better. You can Google colon cleanse Dallas to find places that do this, or look in the Yellow Pages.

Hi C.,

I agree with Missy. My husband and I did a "Daniel Fast", however we did not do it to loose weight, we did it mainly to grow closer to God...BUT we lost a lot of weight while we grew closer to God!! We go to Fellowship Church and our Pastor Ed Young challenged us to a "Daniel Fast" in January of this past year and it changed our lives. Eventhougth the fast is just 21 days, we felt so good physically and we were used to eating so healthy we just kept a modified form of the fast as our daily routine. I have lost 45 pounds and my husband lost 35! You can go to www.fellowshipchurch.com and in the search window type in the word "fast" and it will give you the info you would need to do the fast. It will tell you what to eat and what to avoid. During the 21 days your body will be completely detoxed and you will feel awesome and is is really not that long compaired to your lifetime!! I want to enourage you and I also hope that you not only loose weight but that you grow closer to God as well!! Blessing!!!

I have done detox before and do it on a regular basis. I'm not sure why you are doing it but there are typically two reasons most people detox.

1. Detoxing your entire body to remove environmental and dietary toxins from the body for overall better health. Detox dieting for these reasons usually end up targeting the liver, colon, stomach, etc. (this is probably the most common reason and the reason I do it every six months)

2. Detoxing to lose weight. (while you can lose weight doing this, the results will be a little disappointing, unless you become a vegetarian for a lengthy period of time.

If you are trying to detox you body, there are other more productive ways than merely consuming fruits and vegetables. There are specific fruits that are actually more productive in detoxing specific organs than others. Listed below are some and the organs they target and have the most postitive effects on.

Good detox foods include broccoli, cauliflower, broccoli sprouts, onions, garlic, artichokes, beets, red and green vegetables - these foods seem to target blood, heart and liver function
FYI - drinking the water you steam an artichoke in actually creates a calming effect and can help you sleep better)

Apples - great for digestion.
Grapes - colon cleanse
dandelion supplement - liver detoxification
Green vegetables, garlic and red vegetables - blood, heart and liver.

Drink at least 1/2 gallon of water a day. Water is ESSENTIAL.

Have a good day.
