Fundraiser Idea

There's a very easy fundraiser we did for my daughter's class, and I imagine you could do it for a situation like this as well. Here's the website:

You can do this in the fall or spring, and it costs you nothing. You create a fundraising page on their website where people can buy flowers or bulbs, and you earn 50% of the sales. My daughter's class earned several hundred dollars wlth practically no effort at all. You could set up one of their fundraisers and post the link on Jeremy's Facebook page. Very easy!

How about getting a neighborhood garage or yard sale going? Everyone donates stuff and all the money that is made from it goes to the family?
You can also make baked goods, and crafts and things like that, and put up fliers for a few miles around. You can put on the flier that it is for a good cause, and any donations are most welcomed too.
Everyone can get involved and help out as much as they can.

I hope and pray for him and his family. Never give up hope.

A really successful fundraiser that we just did for school was to have a photographer do family portraits and donate half the proceeds to us. One mom has coordinated this for our schools for the past 7 years. The photographer is really good - we have one outdoor location, each family prepays and gets one sitting and one shot (they can look at the shot and approve it or try again at the sitting) and a set package (1 8x10, 2 5x7 etc.) for $55. Each sitting is 5 minutes and we book 10 per hour for 8 hours netting us about $2K in profits. It's far and away the best fundraiser we do in terms of people feeling like they're getting something of value, and the photographer offers extra prints and holiday cards for additional amounts.

Anyway...if there is someone in your circle of acquaintances who is a professional portrait photographer this might be something to try to pull together in time for holiday portraits. It makes a good amount of $ with relatively little work and it's just one day.

If you haven't already, you might want to look into Lotsa Helping Hands (LHH). It's a free website where people can sign up for errands to help the family - bringing meals, providing transportation (great for any siblings who might have sports or activities to go to), yard work etc. It's a wonderful way to coordinate volunteers and put those "if there is anything I can do..." sentiments to work in a cohesive way that benefits the family.

Best of luck to your friend's son and his loved ones. Hopefully they'll get some positive news for treatment options soon.

Lots of restaurants like Chillis will do fundraisers, where the family gets a certain percentage of earnings one day a week.

I also know of a few families who did huge community car washes and even had bands play and do chilli cookoffs and a little craft fair. People paid to enter.

The up front cost of both ideas is 0.

Look for some online crowdsourcing fundraising sites. Crowdrise like sites. Pay attention to the fees as some can be a bit high. There are some free sites(excluding card processing fees) just do abweb search for online FR sites.

Also reach out to local business community to do a share the profits day. for this you would do some publicity about the day before hand to let the community know that if they shop at certain places on a certain day a percent of sales will go to your cause. Get the local tv/radio station to mention te event. It's a win win for your cause and the participating business

If that seems like too much to take on you can scale down. Work with one local restaurant and ask them donate a certain percent of that sale to your cause everytime someone mentions your cause. Do a word of mouth campaign amongst friends and set up outside the restaurant on the day of to inform strangers. Remember to ask for a % of take out/delivery orders as well since this will broaden your pool of potential participants as some people can't make it out for one reason or another.

I would try to find a restaurant who would be willing to donate a percentage of their profit from people who come on the families behalf. We have a great barbeque place here where we live that does it for local folks who have medical emergencies all of the time. The great thing is that they let the people who are running it stand outside the door and hand out fliers to EVERYONE as they come in...so that each person is donating to the cause. Get the local radio and tv stations involved in promoting it.

Our family friend's child was diagnosed with Leukemia. Another of our friends held fundraisers at Chick-Fil-a's in the area. A percentage of the money made during creation hours, went to the family. She made fliers and hung them up in stores and passed them around. You can do that on a really low budget!

A friend of mine just put on a golf benefit and silent auction to benefit a family member with huge medical bills from being hit by an unlicensed and uninsured driver. They also have done dine and donates at a local restaurant.
