Good Nite - Tru-Fit

Mamas & Papas-

Any suggestions for overnights for my bedwetting 4 year old wriggler? We've got him in Huggies overnight pull ups. He soaks through about 4 or more times a week. Same was true for the goodnights.

We make use of a communal coin operated laundry room in our building's basement. It's a toss up between paying some $4.00 to wash and dry daily, or keeping stinky sheets in our apt for a once weekly laundering.

Thinking of trying the tru-fit underpants and liners, but I'm open to hints and suggestions.

Thanks,
F. B.

We had problems with the Goodnites being too large on my peanut-waisted son, to where they would leak more often than not--and pull ups seemed to not have nearly enough absorbency for us to last through the night.

However, one possible solution you could try if the sizing allows is the Huggies 'Slip-Ons'. They've worked like a charm for us at night because they are able to be pulled on like underpants, but have the absorbency of a diaper (since they don't seem to be geared towards active PT'ers).

I know how stressful the constant battle of laundry can seem at times, but hang in there! There is a light at the end of the tunnel, it won't last forever!

Hi,

My friend recently had a good tip on how to try to help limit the amount of pee at night - so I'll pass it along :)

Her pediatrician recommended having her son pee 1/2 hour before bed, and then again, just before. She was shocked at how much he peed again the second time. So when he's wet the bed, she said it's been far less, and he's slept through it (before he used to wake).

I don't know if you already have tried that, but it's helped her. She said less leaks.

Good luck :)

ETA I realize (sorry) this doesn't really answer your question - my friend was just desperate and found this helped her situation, and I just wanted to pass it along in case it helps anyone. She had tried all the brands - he was older and he was wetting through and waking.

We were discussing this years ago and a man in the group said they used diaper liners for their daughter. I would suggest using bed liners (or even puppy pads since they are the same thing. Also, if you are mostly concerned about the sticky sheets, you could fill a spray bottle with water and vinegar and spritz the sheets, let them dry before throwing in to wait for laundry day. I do this when my son's pjs get that smell. Works pretty well and the vinegar smell does not stick around long.

We've been using Good Nites since my DD got a little older and a little bigger. I have not tried the underpants because I'm hoping that every package of Good Nights (or Underjams, we vary) is the last. You might also consider the disposable bed protectors.

We hav not had that problem with the Good Nites, but we did with Pull-ups ... You could check out The Bedwetting Store and see if they have anything that will work better. We purchased pads for our bed and our son's to protect the mattress from cats, urine, my ostomy, and vomit. They came from the bedwetting store and have done a great job.

Someone else asked a similar question so you might want to check out those responses.

We made our son's bed with a sheet, waterproof pad, and a 2nd sheet. We could strip off the wet one. You could rinse out just the spot and hang the sheet in the shower to dry. Just put that section in the sink, or even in the shower and rinse it without getting the clean part of the sheet all wet. It might not be clean enough for you to put back on the bed, but it won't stink while you wait for laundry day.

You could also try putting a liner in his pull-up - a maxi pad or a Poise-type pad if they aren't too wide.

Good luck - I've been there.

My son was in pull ups forever and what finally got him out of it was no drinks an hour before bed, he would go to bed around 8 and then dad or I would take him potty before we went to bed around 11ish. He would barely wake up but would pee. Even if he doesn't stay dry at night it might reduce the amount of pee in his pull up and start teaching to to wake if he needs to potty.

We have an 8 year old that still wets the bed every night. He pees a gallon. The Goodnights work fine for him. It's all about getting the size that's not too small or just the right size. They need that room for it swelling up with urine.

If he's still flooding out of them then go to a pet store and buy some pee pads. They are disposable paper and don't cost a huge amount. You can hand wash pajamas if needed. I would probably let him sleep in nothing but the pull ups when it's warm enough.

You are seeing the side I always tell people about. It's way more expensive to do tons of extra laundry instead of buying a $20 box of over night pull ups.

One thing "I" did when my daughter was younger was cut adult overnight sanitary napkins or overnight Depend pads in the pull ups. This really helped even more.

Only thing that never leaks on my son is Size 6 Pampers DIAPERS. But at 5.5, who wants to wear a diaper? And they are almost too snug on him. What I found works great is adding these to any pullup - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_10?url=search-al.... We now have been buying the off brand pullups and using a pad and it's working great. We can't do the sheet, waterproof mattress pad, sheet because when he pees, he pees through EVERYTHING!! ANd doesn't wake up. I'd suggest investing in some extra sheets for cheap (Varagesale or Garage Sales...) and then keep a bag somewhere you won't smell it and any wet sheets, wash by hand and then stick in there until you have a few sets to wash). I'd also invest in a waterproof mattress pad to cover the entire mattress and a smaller crib style one. Good luck!
