Hair Donation (NOT Locks of Love)

My hair is really long and I'm planning to cut most of it off. I'd be interested in donating it; however, I don't have the minimum 10 inches required for Locks of Love. Are there any places that will accept 7 inches? If so, please post a website or specific info. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I just wanted to add that my daughter donated to locks of love and we were not charged. She donated when she was starting chemo and wanted to donate before her mid back length hair fell out. I've had several friends also donate and have never heard of LOL charging for donations. Wanted to straighten that out.

ETA - MY BAD - I misread a reply and thought she was saying that you had to pay to donate. My apologies.

You can call a local wig shop and they can possibly direct you to a place, or may take it to make into small wefts. I'm a hairstylist and 10 inches is the typical amount for most places I know of.

I don't like Locks of Love personally b/c they end up selling most of their hair and actually donate very little. I would go with Wigs for Kids... only they require 12 inches.

At Pantene Beautiful Lengths, the minimum amount is 8 inches.. you are almost there!:

Pantene will take 8 inches. Plus they don't charge their recipients like Locks of Love does. I would never donate to LoL for that reason alone! They bury that information in their FAQ section. I donated my hair to Pantene and just followed the directions on their website - very easy!

i don't know of a place but i would contact a pediatric cancer clinic and ask. lots of kids especially teenagers use wigs when they lose their hair to chemo.

As a Mommy waiting for a Wig (I have Alopecia) I would suggest Pantene Beautiful Lengths. They make wigs for cancer patience and even better at no charge. Google search their site and look at their specs.

I cut off 14 inches in July and donated it to Pantene. They do require 8 inches.

Just a note that all the hair donation company’s end up selling most hair due to the overwhelming donations they receive and them not being able to use alot of hair types (they are picky!)

Also... your hair will need to be undyed and unprocessed (perms, straighteners, etc.), or the process wig companies uses melts the hair and gums up their systems. ((I just cut off 12-17 inches of hair -depending on the layer- but couldn't donate it or sell it - because I relax it))

I donated about 7 inches of my hair to "Children with hair loss". They accept any hair in good condition.
