I have two Bi-Racial Daughters 13 & 9 months. I am looking into a product for my girls i found it off the net by searching. http://www.carolsdaughter.com/ my oldest has hair to her bra strap and it's thick and nappy an everything i have tried aborses so fast it looks like it was never touched. her hair is washed once a week and i use the silk Elements line. we have tried everything sallys has sold and it stayed dryed out.I wanted to try out a relaxer but was told after she gets her period not before. i love her hair and especially when wet lays at her butt and beautiful curls but when dry it's crazy. I have heard excellent things about this line but wanted to see if anyone has heard of it or uses it.

What can I do next?

This email applies primarily to your older daughter.

I never had any luck with the Silk Elements product line. Everything we ever bought from Sally's turned out to be silicone based or infused with so much alcohol that it was counterproductive. My daughter is 5 and also has hair to her butt when wet -- we found a product line out of a place in California - www.curls.biz Their stuff is awesome. It is all water soluble, and does not smother or dry the hair - I very highly recommend it. You say you wash your daughter's hair once a week - do you condition it in between? Curls get very dry and thirsty. Every day, (or every other day if you are very pressed for time), she should get in the shower, drench her hair and slather on conditioner. Comb, rinse out conditioner, comb again and apply thick creamy leave in conditioner. On days that she doesn't condition, use an OIL based detangler without alcohol, to get the comb through her hair as well as add much needed moisture. Then apply the creamy leave in conditioner. You will see such a huge difference in her hair, you probably won't want to relax it!

Also - what are you doing with her hair at night? Best advice I can give is to braid it into cornrows and throw on a satin night cap. This helps to keep the hair from getting tangled as well as keep it from drying out as much.

I know it sounds like a lot of work, and it is, but it is sooooo worth it.

For the 9 month old - I treated my girls' hair at that age the same as my own curly caucasian hair until they were about 2 yrs old and it started to get long, more coarse, and nappy.

Best of luck,
K.

Hi, I'm not sure if this will work, as I am caucasion (sp), but I do have naturally curly hair, and when I don't use this,my hair is very frizzy. I use Garnier Fructis sleek and shine,, it's in a round small bottle. I put it in after my shower when my hair is wet, just be careful not to use too much. It makes my curls look much healthier and not all frizzy and dry as if I use nothing.

Hope this helps.

Oh my goodness! I have hair that is just like hers! I am too bi-racial, Please do not put a relaxer in her hair until she gets her period. If you put it in before, it can RUIN her hair and even mess up her hormones while she is getting ready for puberty!
Don't use silk elements it is junk and does not help, except for their one product, which is the silk infused moisture treatment. Buy that at sally's, I believe its two or three dollars, then buy Hawaiian silky, 14 in one it is seven dollars and it is a Miracle Worker! Just put it on her dry hair and you are good to go, if you want more defined curls, put a tiny squirt of twisted sister from walgreens on her hair, also. DO NOT brush or comb her hair.. you are right to wash once a week, thats what I do... YOU CAN flat iron her hair once every 2 months or so, because she may like the straight look, just until she gets her period and you can relax it.

OK!
Hope I helped,

B.

Hi H.,
I have two bi racial boys... one with course hard to deal with hair and one with curly, but caucasion type hair... I have not used the products you are asking about, but... I saw a big thing about the company and products on the Tyra show... Mary J Blige (sp?) and Jada Pinket Smith both use the products as well, as Tyra I believe... not sure about Tyra... but Jada and Mary do for sure and they love it so much that they bought into the company..

good luck

Hello,

First of all my daughter isn't bi-racial but my dad had the type of hair you speak of and me a lil bit also. My daughters hair is beyond nappy LOL. I actually put a PCJ or Just for me one of those brands type of texturizer for kids in her hair it helped a hell of a lot. Because, when I comb her hair it like brakes off it seems like and it just hurts her. I know when I went to the store to buy it a white woman in there said that she put it in her kids hair too so I guess it's good for everybody LOL. Also, Carols daughter products are THE BOMB DIGGITY LOL. They are natural and they smell awesome too. I think that you should definately try them they are pricey but well worth the money you will be pleased. I actually have used some of the products myself and was happy with them. Let me know how things turn out.
