Hi moms. Here is my problem. My older son, 2.5 y/o, keeps his fingers in his mouth all the time since the pacifier is gone. He used it only to fall a sleep and never needed at the day time. Since the little brother was born i didn't want to give him more stress by taking this little comfort thing away. Three months ago we got rid of it, i would say easy, but looks like he replace it by fingers. And the problem is - fingers are always there. i just can't get his hands out of his mouth! And now he start to nibble nails. i just wonder if there is anything out there to change this before it turn into a REAL habbit. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

What can I do next?

If you go to the drug store you can get some stuff called THUMB, I believe. When I worked at walgreens it was in the baby isle with all of the orajel and pacifiers. This stuff is actually to stop nail biting. You put some on his nails and then, anytime he puts his fingers in his mouth, he will get an awful bitter taste and feeling. I know it sounds mean, but that is the best suggestion that i can come up with for you.

I like what the lady below said about the stop bite. If this does not work, keep some small mittens handy and make him wear them if you see his hands in his mouth.

Good luck!

I ordered 'control-it' which is similiar to what someone else said. I rub it over the finger nails as 'nail polish' which she hates. It does help.
