My sister thought she was having blood in her urine so she scheduled a nurse visit on Monday to do a urinalysis. But she noticed today the blood only shows up when she has bowel movements. She told me she don’t think it’s coming from her bowel movement area or when she urinates now, but possibly spotting as if she was going to start her period but she just had a period a week and a half ago. She is going on a cruise Wednesday and she doesn’t know to go ahead with the nurse visit or make an appointment with her obgyn? Has anyone ever had this happen before?

What can I do next?

It certainly sounds like it's vaginal. When we have bowel movements we use the same muscles that expel cervical fluids. Is it possible that she is ovulating now? Some women see blood like this when they ovulate. This would fit (depending on her cycles) with the timing from her last period. Is it possible that she is pregnant? Some women see 'spotting' similar to a period when the fertilized egg implants.

Another possibility is that she has tears in her bladder. I have this and, as a result, always have blood in my urine. The problem with this is that it can only be diagnosed when everything else is ruled out. (Although, if she is sure it's not in her urine, this wouldn't be a consideration.)

Since she is fairly certain it's vaginal, her obgyn is probably her best bet.

She may have hemorriods and they bleed a little bit after a bowel movement. She should probably still see a Dr. to be safe.

If she's noticing that the blood is present when she's having bowel movements, she may have a small internal hemorrhoid that's bleeding whenever she passes stool.

I spot in-between my periods a lot! Some months its like I have two periods! NOT FUN! If I don't take my b/c at the exact same time everyday, I will spot that month! I am talking as little as an hour off and it screws me all up.

I agree it could also be that she is pregnant. IF she is going out of town and can't get an appt. with her OBGYN, she should still see the nurse. The nurse might be able to rule some things out, like with a pregnance test. If it is in her urine or bm, the nurse could probably determine that as well.

Best of luck!
