How Could I Be So Forgetful???

Yes, did this and my witty son at 2 years said "Mom, do you want me start buckling myself now? I can." He wasn't phased at all. Just thought he was growing up and time to take on more responsibility for himself.

I've done it! Makes you feel awful, but we sometimes have a lot going on when getting loaded in the car! I've even had my oldest tell me, "Mom you forgot to buckle me in!"

yes, I've done that. Sometimes we just get too tired or stressed to remember. For me it was a sign I had to get more rest and simplify my life. It just took a few easy tweaks for me to feel safe again.

Is it possible she unbuckled the belt? That's another issue that may need attention.

Hey, I got in the car one afternoon, turned it on, and started to back up out of the driveway. I turned to look thru the back window for traffic and thats when I saw the empty carseat.. Id left my 3 week old daughter in the house! I guess after 3 1/2 years trying to get pg, and 9 months of never really believing I was pg, and giving birth on my due date with 20 minutes of labor and 2 pushes,, I sorta forgot I had a baby...

I never made it out of the parking lot because my 3 year old said "Mommy don't u love me?" Of course I do I said. Her response, "then why did you buckle Chiara (her baby sister) in but not me!!!!" I felt horrible, but you are definately not alone!!!

OMG...I HAVE done this and felt like a complete IDIOT. Or, how about when someone unhooks the seat belt in the back of the car seat and I didn't realize. So I buckle the child in the car seat but the seat isn't buckled in.

I didn't quite forget to buckle my kid down in his carseat as much as I forgot to lock the seat itself down. In the middle row the two captain seats were together, my two boys were fighting left and rights. So I pulled over separated the seat, and then my 3 yr old had a meltdown. I went over had a talking with him. Got everyone buckled back in, and was on was on my marry way. Until I slammed on my breaks and watched as my 1 yr old's seat went bucking forwards like there was no tomorrow (thank god he's still rear facing). At first I thought the carseat itself came detached from the seat until I stopped again and watch the seat go flying forward again!! I pulled over at the next stop and made sure it was latched this time. Talk about scary.

My hubby said he did forget to buckle my oldest when in his infant seat after shopping. Luckily I haven't done so yet. Closest I have come to is having the chest clip aligned incorrectly which caused it not to fasten all the way. Thank goodness it was a 5 point so the crotch buckle held him in perfectly fine!

We all do unthinkable things, and we are so blessed to have nothing horrible happen. I'll have to tell you I double check chest clips and the seats every time now! I'm sure you will be double checking for awhile, don't beat yourself up over it. We're moms not perfect!

I did this just this after noon!! I got her in seat and unwrapped her lollipop and totally forgot her belt! Thank God she's now strong enough and just coordinated enough to belt herself in.

One of the funniest stories I ever heard involved a friend of mine that had a daughter that had just given birth to her first grandson. Mind you, this friend of mine is one of the best moms I know. It was a cold day in January in the midwest and everyone was at the hospital getting ready to bring the baby home. Dad brought in the infant seat and Grandma bundled the baby all warm and snuggly and placed the baby in the infant seat and secured the straps. The precious bundle was carried out to the car and placed in the base securely strapped in the middle of the back seat as is instructed. They all drove to the baby's new home and everyone was so excited to see the baby in his new environment. He was taken from the car and carried inside and unstrapped and unwrapped from all the blankets that kept him warm and low and behold, he had been placed in the car seat upside down. No harm came to him, babies are more resiliant than we think. My friend still has trouble finding the humor in the story and the boy is now a Sophmore in High School and stands 6' and has no visible signs of trauma from that trip. My guess is that you will never forget to secure your child again.

My problem was not remembering. My problem was once she hit a certain age she learned how to climb out of them. My daughter was climbed out and had gotten her self unbuckled when we were on the highway.

Yes once I didn't buckle the carrier in and another time I locked my son in the car buckled into his seat and had to call the fire department.

We've had two instances one for myself and one for my husband.

Daughter was about a year old, she was walking at the time but she was tiny so she was still facing backwards. Driving down the highway my husband says to me "What is going on in the backseat?"..."what do you mean?"...he says her hands are flying all around and OMG, OMG"...so I turn and she's sitting in her seat facing us saying "HI!"...all husband could do was freak out. I kept saying pull over and I'll crawl back there and get her buckled. "I CANNOT BELIEVE I FORGOT TO BUCKLE HER!"...

Fast forward...it's now January of this year. My mom and dad had had the kids for the weekend but when we picked them up we used husbands truck and forgot the seats for my car. So after work one day I went over to get them...put them in the car and thought nothing of it. All week we ran errands went to grab dinner....A week later the kids and I go to the store and I was helping my son out of his seat and it moved! Never moves cause I tighten that sucker in...look at the seat belt and his seat is not even strapped into the car. Talk about freak out...I drove around with him buckled into the seat by not into the car!

I did that once and felt awful. Don't beat yourself up, I promise you will never do it again!

I've done that once or twice & I think that most parents have done it.

Yes, I did that on at least three occasions for my first born. I was such a wreck those first few months. I never did that with the other kids :-)

Om my, not only have I done the same thing but, on a turn the car seat fell over to the side and my daughter was almost upside down giggling. Luckily, my kids are now 10 1/2 and 5 so my days of car seats are almost over.

I did once and didn't make it out of the driveway. My daughter, probably around 2 at the time started shreekeing like a banshee. Still felt really awful even though we didn't go anywhere.

I did it once with our first child. He was born in January and we lived in Ohio. It was below freezing most days.

I had one of those cozy covers over his infant seat, you know the ones for winter that fit over the car seat and zips up so you don't need blankets and such.

We had a long long shopping trip and I guess we had laid him down in his car seat and he fell asleep so we zipped him back up in there and continued shopping.

We forgot he wasn't hooked in because he was all covered. In the car we went and drove home....

You will NEVER forget again, trust me.

I've done that one time, but, it wasn't that she wasn't buckled in the car seat...it was the car seat wasn't buckled in the car. I was mortified at my ignorance and forgetfulness. It's almost a reminder to yourself that you need to slow down and not rush so much. You're not alone!

Oh yeah. You get distracted with other things and forget to strap them in. It makes you sick when you realize that you didn't do it. Now my daughter is 3 and she tells me when I don't do it. Makes life easier when they can tell you.

It happended to me. I found out when my older son told me the baby was "rolling around on the floor" My kids all learned early on to remind me when I forget.

Oh, yes. I have done that - also have driven with my son buckled in but had forgotten to buckle in the actual car seat after we had taken it out. YOU ARE NOT A BAD MOM. WE ARE ALL FORGETFUL, SOME OF US MORE THAN OTHERS!

Yep, happened to me. Once when DS was about 12 months old I forgot to buckle the seat into the car. He was buckled in, but when I stepped on the brake the first time he started to tip. Fortunately we caught him and he was not injured. Another time when DS was able to talk but not buckle himself, I started the car and he said, "Um, mom, you forgot to buckle me."

I did that once! My younger daughter was about 2, and I have no idea how it happened, but we got home and she had not been buckled in. I am SUCH a stickler about seatbelts and safety normally, I was just horrified. I'll tell you though - you will never forget it again! I never have!

I did it once with my then 3 yr old. I was horrified. I am so anal about stuff like that. I noticed before we got very far because she was really close to my seat, and I couldn't figure out how she was so close. When I turned to look, she was having a BLAST with her new found freedom and was riding like a crazy child on the edge of her seat. It was hilarious/horrifying all in one.

I think sometimes something distracts us or something. I don't know how we forgot. But I do know I think about it each time now and haven't made the same mistake since.

Goodness, I've never done that! I hope I never do, but you never know. Were you distracted by something? I can often be distracted easily, so I make sure nothing is distracting me when I am getting into the car, or getting out of the car. I would check and double check from now on, just so it doesn't happen again. Yikes!!

Oh yeah. Never did it again.
