We're doing a kid's birthday party for our children for the first time this year. So, I want to give ample time for invitees to RSVP by one week in advance. I also don't want to send out invites so far in advance that people forget. My question is how far in advance should I give out the birthday invites? This is for Saturday 11/5. I do have the venue reserved already. Thank you!

So What Happened?

Everything I've read says 2-3 weeks. I'll do 3 weeks since I want an answer 1 week out, unless I hear from you otherwise :).

Hi Lady---Maybe you could start with a save-the-date phone call a month in advance then follow with the formal invitation 2+ weeks before the date. Yes, it is unfortunate that people won't rsvp as requested. I don't know if it's that they're too busy or just don't want to commit in case something more important comes along. In any case, it's downright rude.

Good luck, have fun and Happy Birthday to all! D.

3/4 weeks but don't expect rsvps. Ask for them but then follow up with each and every person you invited.

I would say 2-3 weeks early. If you are doing paper invites, I would back them up by sending an electronic evite invitation as well. It will increase your RSVP level. Oh, and if you don't get responses, don't feel bad about following up with people.

I always send birthday party invitations a month in advance.

I would say you are good w/7-10 days notice. Especially if people wouldn't be travelling far. If it's anyone out of state or something, I would give 2 weeks notice. Sadly, hardly anyone RSVPs anymore. I always just plan on at least half or more coming and then you should have plenty of what you need to make the party a success. Have fun!

Don't even expect anyone to RSVP, they don't, it just sets you up for frustration and disappointment. Just expect about 75% of them to come. If you invited that many then you should have cake and stuff for that many but don't go all out with anything else. Make the party simple and fun.
