How Long Before a Birthday Party Can I Make the Cake?

So I have a duel birthday party tomorrow at 3 pm. How early do I dare make the cakes and decorate them? The birthday girls are age 2 and 4. They are lots of fun, but I'm worried they won't let me get the cakes in the morning. And I don't have anyone to watch them. My hope is that I can make them tonight when I put them to bed. If the party is at 3 pm would making them tonight and decorating them tonight also be a mistake? Weill they be stale?

What can I do next?

Making a cake the night before shouldn't be a problem..... I typically make the cake the day before and ice it, also.

You can make them tonight for sure. And decorate them. They'll be fine.
I wouldn't refrigerate them at all (unless it's HOT there).
I hate cake that's been refrigerated. Yuck.

Up to a week in advance if you use corn oil and cover.
Several weeks in advance if you use corn oil and cover and freeze.

Day before? Honey, you're FINE.

I make the cake the night before and let it cool completely overnight. I frost in the morning.

Hi! I hope your girls are asleep and you're baking the cakes for tomorrow. The cakes will be fine and not stale at all! Don't stress yourself out by trying to do everything the day of the party. (I've gone that route in the past and I've learned from experience to do certain things a day or two before the company.) You will be so much more relaxed by making the cakes tonight since you won't be pressured by not having enough time.

Happy birthday to your girls! I am going to be in your shoes in two weeks! I will be making one of their favorites......iced lemon cakes the night before.

This is what I usually do. The difference between the nightly baked cake and the same day cake arent noticable to me. We live in a very humid area though. Sour cream in the badder makes a cake super moist. But if you ice the cake it should some what seal it so no air gets to the cake and dries it out.

I think cake tastes better the second day! Even the lady that made my cakes for me did it one or two days in advance. Never on the day I was going to serve them. Have fun!

I always do mine the day before, if not two days before. Get as much done before hand. You'll enjoy the day of much more.

They'll be fine...I usually bake my cakes at night, let them cool overnight, and then frost them in the morning. They don't go stale that fast!
