I am now 37 weeks pregnant with our second child. This is the same week during pregnancy that I gave birth to my daughter who is almost 3yo. I was on brethine every 4 hours and bedrest from the time I was 27 weeks until a week and half ago. (around 35 1/2 weeks) Now I'm having contractions all the time. I have already went to the hospital twice because I really thought I was going to have my son, but each time I don't dilate any. Once the contractions were 3 min.'s apart and very painful. My Dr. has even gave me some med.s to help me sleep because it has been so long since I was able to sleep more than 2 hours at a time. (Because of pain not from going to the bathroom) Ever since I've been off of bed rest I've done what ever I could think of to make him come, walk, sex, nipple stimulation and spicy food. I just don't understand how I went the past 2 months stopping labor daily to can't get it to start. How long after bedrest and med.'s does it take for the baby to know it is ok to come now? Any tips to get him out?
Well just a few days after I posted the question I started having really bad contractions and decided just to rest all day and not puch my self or try any other labor inducing tricks and that night my water broke. My son is now just over a week old and is as cute as can be. I think the best advice I got was just to relax and wait for something to happen, because that's when it did! Thanks everyone for all the info.
With my son they stopped labor and he ended up coming one week later than the due date. With my daughter I was given brethine twice and she had to be induced. For some reason, both of my labors were stopped with meds and it prolonged my pregnancy. I tried everything I could think of to go into labor with my son and learned that when the baby is ready, he will come on his own.
NO! NO pineapple! I was dilated 3 cm for 2wks, went in and was 4cm, then saw that website and ate a whole pineapple a few days later and was 2 1/2cm the next day! It took me 2 more weeks to get back to 4 & 5cm. Don't take the chance! (That was my last pregnancy when I went to 39wks).
I just noticed that my 1st post from earlier today isn't on here...weird. I don't want to write it all out again, so I hope it comes on soon, but I went through this same thing w/2. One I went into labor at 37wks after going to the hospital 3 times for false labor and being dilated to 3cm for 3 weeks ( I was on bed rest for a few weeks with him at around 32 wks). #2, I went in 2 or 3 times and was dilated to 3cm for 3wks and had him at 38wks, and I told them I REFUSED to go home or I wouldn't come back, and I meant it (I was contracting at that point for 3hrs every 1 1/2mins when I went in and a couple hours later 40 secs apart). BTW, I did castor oil and will NEVER do that again. It made for the LONGEST HARDEST most MISERABLE labor EVER! Having contractions every 40 secs (STRONG contractions) for 12 hrs with your water broken and having to constantly run to the bathroom is NOT fun!
With #3, I was dilated 5cm for a week when I was finally induced at 39wks, and my Dr kept telling me to go to the hospital ANY time I had contractions every 5mins (regularly) for a couple of hours, but I just couldn't do that with any of my pregnancies because I was ALWAYS contracting like that. I really really hope that won't happen this time.
I have a friend who swore by red raspberry leaf extract. You can find it in the form of tea at Wild Oats or in the health food section of the grocery store. She said when she had "had enough" (she was full term) of being pregnant with her second child, she started drinking this and was in labor within two days.
Hang in there!
I tried several things to try to go into labor w/ my son. I was having A LOT of pressure (I thought my insides were going to come out) but nothing really seemed to do the trick. From what I've read though relaxation will help and if you are anxious about going into labor you need to sit back, relax, take a nice warm bath, have sex, eat pineapple, go for a really GOOD walk, take another warm bath and drink some herbal tea. I hope you have the baby soon but honestly I think they come when they are darn ready. You might have to wait for all the meds to get out of your system before something really works. GOOD LUCK!!!
Hi.
I was on Brethine and bed rest with my first from 30 weeks until 35 weeks. I then had to be induced at 41 weeks, so I guess he just got too comfy in there!!!
Don't worry about it I say, just one more day until all nighters and tar diapers...
