How Soon Did You Get Pregnant After Mirena?

So my DH and I are talking about when to try for our next baby! I am very excited! I had Mirena IUC inserted about a year ago, and my doc told me that after it's removed, that we should be able to try for our next baby soon after it's out, unlike the pill where your body needs to readjust. So my question is, how many of you moms have experience with this? How long did it take to get pregnant after having the IUC removed? I know everybody is probably different, but I would like to hear how it worked for other moms.

And one more thing...how was your first period after the IUC was removed? I haven't had a period in almost 2 years. I had the IUC inserted less than 2 months after my son was born, and I nursed. Then with the IUC, I haven't had a period since before I got pregnant. I'm kinda nervous about my first period b/c I haven't had one in so long. I'm afraid it's going to be really bad, or really severe PMS with horrible cramps. I'm not going to the doctor for another month, so I was hoping some of you moms might have an answer for me.

Thanks for all of your input!

Congrats on your decision to try for #2! I got pregnant my first cycle after taking the Mirena out! I had my period about 2 weeks after taking it out.....it was heavy not too much cramping though. then 1 month later I got the postive test. I was very surprised it happened so fast! I am now 16wks pregnant and everything is going great. Also, 2 other women at my OB's practice got pregnant their first cycle as well!

My first period after the Mirena was removed was just a normal period. It wasn't really heavy, but it definitely was more of a period than the ones with the IUD. Those were great!

That was the only period I had, because we got pregnant our first month. We didn't even really have to try. I was on the pill before we started trying for our first, and this time it was much easier to get pregnant because the hormones immediately leave your body with the IUD. Good luck!

I believe it was either after month 2 or 3 after having the Mirena removed. I just had my second child and will be having the Mirena placed again at my 6wk checkup. I loved it.

Hi B.,

I got pregnant with twins on our second month of trying after removing the Mirena. And, my first period after was like before the IUC.

Good luck!

what is DH? Am I so out of it? that I dont know what these new abbreivations are.....Wow the *** seems a bit harsh. I guess you just never know what you'll get when you put out these requests. Thanks for the insight and honesty.

PS. not having your period in 2 years is not normal...is it? and should be discussed with your Dr. As for getting pregnant...if you haven't gotten pregnant after 6 months or a year of trying then you also need to see your Dr. Dont worry about your period being painful ...you can just take advil. Dont worry about PMS you can take an anti-depressant or anti-anxiety pill for that now and no one should have to suffer anymore.

Hey there B. -

I currently have the Mirena, had it placed in October 2007. Although I don't have a personal answer for your question about getting pregnant, after months of frustration with "symptoms" that were un-explainable, i.e. 27 lbs of weight gain in 10 months, chronic vulvar itching and dryness, NO sex drive, moodiness, bulging tummy, cramping, non-stop spotting, etc. and 3 visits to OB-GYN's complaining, only to be told that it is in my mind, that the Mirena does NOT cause these symptoms, I found this website that might help you:
http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=70147. Although I didn't read all 500+ responses, I did read a few that mentioned how long it took them to get pregnant after having their Mirena removed and quite a few that talked about their menstrual flow. It sounds like you are happy with your Mirena, so disregard those of us that have had adverse reactions to the hormones, but there is a lot of good info pertaining to your questions.

Best of luck!
C.
