I have two dogs and the fleas are awfull this year. The best way to deal with the fleas for me has been to wash the dogs in a flea shampoo..I like hertz, they have a new citris sents that smaell real good out ow too. then I put on the flea drops....then I wash in flea shampoo once a week. so far...no fleas. Hope this helps.oh...some one had posted that flea eggs were the brown flaky stuff..this is not true the brown flaky stuff is flea poop.

i'm in the same situation. I got 2 cats and a puppy. I put the Frontline Plus on them a week ago but it seems like they still have the fleas. Plus I'm finding the fleas now in my sons hair and he has fleas bites all over his body.

I don't have any suggestions, but just wanted to say I am with you. We are also having a flea problem. I have a 6 month old who is constantly on the floor. The poor thing has flea bites all over her.

We had fleas once bad! If you've just treated the animals follow up with these steps if not Then brush all visiable eggs off animals(they look like brown knots in hair)flush these clumps down the toilet or they can still hatch. Then freshly treat animals with like frontline first
then:
Strip every bed in your house was ALL linens. Vacume whole house and dump out container IMMEDIATELY into a sealed trash bag put it outside. also vacume couches and chairs.
Then continue to brush the animal once a day an vacume house once a day.
It sucks its very time consuming but these da*m things will find a way to keep coming back. They can only survive if they feed off blood.
Wear socks to bed and long pants. Put your children in footies if you have them.
Wash teh linens twice a week if you want.
You only want to resort to bombing you house if all else fails. MOst of the bombs that truely work will leave you scrubing your whole house down after and washing all your dishes(if you didn't cover them)
Good luck
(brushing and flushing is the key)

As a veterinary technician, see your veterinarian for recommendations regarding care for your pets and for your home. You have to treat both especially if you have a heavy infestation. I also recommend washing all pets bedding in hot water with regular detergent and throw away the vacuum bag every time you use it, tied in a plastic bag. Flea collars on pets don't work to cover the whole body like frontline plus or advantage. Too many fleas can cause anemia in pets if untreated. They aren't easy to get rid of but with the proper regimenand the help of your veterinarian you will overcome them.

We moved from Arizona and it did not even cross my mind to think of fleas as an issue. Needless to say our house became infested...ugghhh!

We called our pest control company (Ohio Exterminating). They came out in a series of 2 visits and sprayed our whole house. We had to be out of the house for 3 hours. After the second treatment no more fleas. Of course, we also put Frontline from our vet on our dog from the months of March to September as a preventative measure. Havent seen a single flea since.

Hope this helps!

You have to get a carpet cleaner and use two cap fulls of bleach in what ever you use. Get some fle collars and put them in your vacum, wash anything your pet has been on, and wip down your winddow seals, and the fle spray and carpet cleaner works.

Hello S.,

I too know what you are going through. Last summer (summer of 2005) was really bad for my family and our cat. I had gone to Walmart and just bought the flea bombs and flea drops for our Cat. I had to bomb our apartment three times. After the first two times, I could not understand why they were coming back so fast. Then one day, when I was going through my kids toybox getting out the broken/extra toys that they do not play with, I found the toy box to be full of these pesky insects. I then realized that I had been covering the toybox up with a blanket so I would not have to wash all the toys. Well needless to say I did a lot of washing. This past summer, however, we have been very lucky. I think I only had a total of two fleas in my house all summer long. Someone said I was lucky because I kept my cental air on like 66 or 68 and it was too cold for them-who knows? Now I do know that several years ago, I had went to a Superpetz and the employee there told me to get garlic tablets and give them to my pet all year round and that during the hot months the garlic smell will seep from the animals skin and they said that fleas do not like the smell of garlic. I truely recommend getting some Frontline for your animal. It's the best available. But if money is tight..you can just do what I did. Best of luck.

Sincerely,
M. S.

You have to get them out of your house also and out of the ground outside, or they will keep affecting your animals.

Stick a dish that has a lip on it, in a corner in each room of your house. Put a little borax soap and water in it. Sit a light above the dish, so it just lights up the dish and nothing around it. In the morning you wilol have dead fleas. Get frontline plus for your animals.

You have to treat your yard also. Get ortho flea control for yards. You will have no more fleas in 5 days.

Good luck...God Bless...Chrissy

Not sure how to get them off your animals other than washing them w/ a flea/tick shampoo. But a tip if they are in the carpet--pour salt on the carpet--they will eat it and dehydrate. It gets messy and you have to wear shoes, but my mother did this when I lived at home and it works really well.

Hi S.,

We have 3 cats and a dog, so we usually end up w/ fleas 1 or 2 times a year. I used to use OTC flea sprays and shampoos for my pets/carpet & furniture, and it was just a waste of time and money! My neighbor recommended Advantage and it works EVERY time! I just go to the nearest Vet. clinic and tell them I want Advantage for fleas. They will ask you a couple of questions, type of pet(Dog/Cat), and how much they weigh. 2 doses for cats under 10 lbs cost me $13, and 1 dose for a dog over 55lbs was the same. You apply the whole tube to your pets skin(they should give you an informational pamphlet w/ the med.). It kills all fleas on your pet w/in 12-24hrs,and sterilizes the eggs. It is completely safe and can even be used on young puppies and kittens(6wks. old). The best part is that all you have to do is vaccuum up the carnage because it will take care of all fleas/eggs in your pets' environment as they come into contact w/them, and it works for 30 days! I know that it sounds too good to be true, but it works!! You can treat your pet once a month if you like, and this will prevent future infestations. Good luck!

we had a problem with fleas when we brought home 2 adorable barn kittens for our pets. i know some people advise against bombs, but they worked for us and were not very expensive. first we removed the animals to another location away from our home to be washed with flea shampoo. while we were away we set off a bomb in every room including our basement. make sure to follow the directions perfectly and do not cheat. move big or bulky items away from walls to get behing them. cover or remove all food prep items and cupboard items like opened bags/boxes and dishes. after the bomb was complete you can vacuum all over and then remove the vacuum cleaner bag and take outside to main trash so any living fleas or eggs you might have swept up will be gone. then if you want, spray with a carpet spray that kills fleas and eggs. bring your clean animals back in and hope for the best. also, it really helps to do it all over again a week or 2 later. i know its tedious and time consuming...especially if you have a baby! but it works...
